After CAI instal error P1101

I'm getting a p1101 error after installing my eBay cold air I take last night. Anyone have any suggestions?

Related to the MAF... I am going to ask the first question Tech Support always asks... Is it plugged in? Unplugged MAF could cause this.

Other than that:
- MAF may have gotten some debris on it. Could try some MAF cleaner
- MAF maybe damaged you may need to replace it if you weren't careful while handling it
- Can you link the CAI you installed? Only other thing I can think is maybe the CAI is causing some turbulence that the MAF isn't expecting and therefore it can't read the airflow coming into the intake.

Thanks for that info. I'll try to clean it. Here is what I bought

It is plugged in. I didn't disconnect the maf just unscrewed the a screws and installed into the new intake. It doesn't throw code immediately. After 10 to 20 miles.

Are you able to clear the code and see if it comes back? You could swap back to the stock airbox quickly to see if it's the MAF or CAI

Yeah I am able to clear it with my ultragauge. I think I am going to switch back to my oem airbox and see if it comes back.

The computer will throw codes if the MAF sensor is installed in a pipe that has a bigger diameter than the OEM airbox. If this is the case, you will need an engine tune to recalibrate the MAF sensor.

Really? I'm sure there's other people here running a cai without a tune. I plan on tuning just not right now. I was under the impression the ecm would recalibrate to stock settings.

If the diameter of the tube where the MAF goes in is bigger then the ecu can't re-calibrate.

Interesting. Thank you maddmatts and Nick. I think the diameter is the same where the sensor goes. I picked up some maf cleaner. Gonna do that today and give it a try.

Cleaned the maf today. And reinstalled the aftermarket cai. Drove with stock intake on for about 50 miles w no issue.

I know the cai is suppose to increase noise, but there's a pretty big "sucking" sound that doesn't sound normal. Maybe it is. I'll update tomorrow after driving the car

It is likely the tube size.

Have you reset the computer? Reset it. Start the car and let it idle for 2-5 mins. Then take it for a drive. If that doesn't work, you will either need a tune or an inner reducer. I have one for a K&N intake, if you can get your dimension of your tube. If it fits, it will allow you to use the MAF with no recalibration.

Once the calibration of the intake occurs, the TPS will adjust throttlebody butterfly to match incoming air volume. The sound will still be there but more subtle.

Thanks, I did reset it, or when I installed the CAI I let it sit for a couple minutes before driving. So maybe an inner reducer is all I need. Can I purchase that anywhere? Is it just rubber that goes near the maf sensor?

Can you measure the inner diameter of the tube? I have a spare from my K&N install.

The turn at the beginning of the tube may not allow for fitment of the sleeve.

You may need to get a refund.

Cold air intakes bring in cold air from the outside, usually from a vent. Ram air intakes just suck air from inside of the engine bay, like the one you have. You'll probably need it tuned to fix the problem. However, I didn't have a problem when I put my ZZP intake on my car before it was tuned. There might be a defect in that intake making the maf sensor out of wack.
