I was looking at the maintenance schedule last night & was surprised that the engine air filter is supposedly good for 45,000 miles or 4 years. That seems like a long time for paper type filter. So, is there something I’m missing about the stock filter? I actually pulled mine out and it looked brand new, no dirt between the pleats, no stains, nothing. I have about 7,400 miles on the car.

i'm guessing with the design of the induction going into the airbox you don't get much dirt in there.

Yeah you just clean it. That's better than buying a new one imo. Plus slightly better airflow if he doesn't want an aftermarket intake.
Installing a K&N filter is the reason I checked the maintenance schedule. I figured with nearly 7,500 miles on the car an air filter change would be coming up. I really don’t want an aftermarket intake; this is my gas mileage car so a little better air flow would satisfy me. I have a couple of Camaros and a GTO if I feel the need to go fast.
I usually change air & cabin filters every other oil change (oil/filter @ 5K, oil, air, cabin @10K). That’s what prompted my original question about the stock filter being good for 4 year/45,000 miles. I would have thought half of that 20-25K would be recommended & my personal preference being half of that 10 to 12K. I just can’t see a paper type filter lasting that long regardless of the airbox/intake design. Anyhow, I’m due for an oil change in about 1,500 miles so I’ll probably drop a K&N air filter in at that time.
