I wonder if he is thinking of the BNR E-85 injector AND tune upgrade which just so happens to run $300 with injectors (and sans sensor ket)?

Quite possibly. Preload and and Swordsmith are the only two that have offered their services to build a plug and okay kit. BNR entertained the idea and then decided to pass on building/selling a plug and play kit.

The injectors are more like $175 for four.

If you want real Bosche injectors, they are about $150 each.

Also, I wouldn't be making the kits as a business adventure. Trust me, I make much more at work per hour than I would making the flexfuel kits.

Parts are approx 150. But add up the time spent ordering parts. Paying shipping, finding the ECM pins, making the AN fitting braided lines and pressure testing for leaks.

I'm more intersted in building the kits to fill the void that the vendors haven't filled. It's symbiotic too. More people are likely to buy e85 tune kits from Trifecta and BNR as a result.

If $350 is too steep for my valuable time, spend $150 and make your own and let me know how that goes.

@Sword, I wasn't aware that you were considering making kits or intended to undercut you.

I was just playing with the idea when I thought about how disappointing it is that more people aren't going flexfuel yet.

I understand that time is money and if you were to do something like that then you can charge what you wish, no argument there. My comment of it being steep is personal opinion.

I just purchased the injectors through BNR and they were $300 for the four. Did I get ripped off? Should I return them as soon as they arrive? I've got the full tune and one day (probably sooner than later) will get the sensor and lines/connectors.

The BNR kit with tune and cable is $700

I think a sensor kit would be a good venture. I don't think an individual could cash in as the volume would probably be low. The basics would be the same for most vehicles excepting the fuel lines. Some applications may require different vehicle connections, EV1 or EV6? The lengths of the lines could vary but a little more length for some vehicles shouldn't be an issue. This is far from focusing only on demand from Sonic or Cruze or even GM owners. This would be applicable to any vehicle with the basic flexfuel underpinnings intact that could be tuned for it.

I ordered the E85 kit (injectors, tune update) from bnr as well. You may be able to source the injectors cheaper but I chose to support a quality vendor.

I don't have a problem supporting a quality vendor, but if I could get the injectors for almost half the cost by going another route, I'd feel a bit cheated.

You wouldn't pay Chevrolet $40k for your sonic because you like Chevy.

Preloader mentioned $175 for the four is why I'm asking. I could buy the sensor and hoses with the difference.

If the e85 kit is $700 then I saved $400 by just buying the injectors as I have a red cable already. And I could put the money I saved towards custom tune/dyno

If the injectors BNR sent me really are worth $300 I have no issues at all.

The bosche giant green 42# injectors are the highest quality and can cost about $150 a piece.

If you google green 42# injectors you can find a variety of "bosche like" knock-offs.

That doesn't mean BNR sells the ones I saw. There may be a range of quality in the cheaper alternatives.

I just want to be clear, because I don't want people going around quoting me as saying BNR sells $175 injectors for $300.

Also, you paying for vendor satisfaction. If one of your 4 injectors goes faulty prematurely, I'm sure BNR will take care of you.

You won't get that benefit from buying a cheap set online. I'd suggest not worrying about what you could've saved. Just move forward with what you got.

thanks for clarifying, I'm certain BNR will send me quality injectors. If anybody had a beef with them I think we would all know by now. So far I've been satisfied with them.

I was not seriously offering to build and market that kit, I was pointing out that IF I were to do so, I would charge $600 for it, and it would not really be much of a bargain; I would simply buy all the parts at retail, put them in a box with a sticker that said they were from me, and double my money.

Preloader is only slightly more serious about his offer, as far as I can tell, he said he would do it if he got laid off from his real job.. but he too doesn't seem willing to do the wheeling and dealing to get the parts wholesale in bulk and take the risk that his supply would outstrip your demand and all of that.

Being a vendor is tough, coming up with a product where the demand is high enough to justify the work can be tricky. I'm not a car parts vendor, I only know sword stuff really, and I didn't mean to suggest otherwise as anything other than a joke.

I definitely dream sometimes about becoming a vendor one day using DDMW as my model. To choose a new American car and R&D performance products for the enthusiasts. Sound like a great life.

But it's just a dream. I've been asked at times to recreate some of my projects for others, and while tempting, I just couldn't justify the hours/$$$ ratio.

I may play with a couple custom products in my seasonal lay-off times just to get a feel for it, and maybe gauge the demands for stuff that I could make a decent turnaround on.

It seems that there are some kinks in my flexfuel tune. My sensor is reading properly..... Full e85 tank shows 80% alcohol (Vince says that's typical alcohol content in e85), and when I filled my tank with about 55% 91 premium, it reads 40%.

The problem is that when I come to a stop, the engine surges, then stalls.:blankface: I've been working with Vince to get this solved, but we're not making any progress after 2 updates.

Oddly, if I engine brake all the way down to about 1,000 rpm before I push the clutch in, the engine will idle fine when I stop. But if I just press the clutch in at speed, like I normally would coming to a stop, the engine revs drop, bounce up to 1,000 then drop way down to 600 and then stalls.

I'm wondering if Swordsmith had any issues with his initial flexfuel tune like this?
