Anti-lag

Hey everybody I have searched the forums and I didn't see this come up. I know why, because its a bad idea, but still. Has anyone thought about putting an anti-lag kit on their sonic? I haven't really looked into them too much so im not sure if they're universal or not. If not I suppose no one made one for the sonic. Anyways, thats my post, has anyone thought of putting an anti-lag kit on their 1.4t

The thought has crossed my mind also...briefly...after I heard of the horrible things it does to the turbo I quickly decided against it....I have been thinking about a 2step tho

I basically just want it so it'll throw flames and be deafening(for exhaust competitions between my friends not for daily use)

Doesn't trifecta offer a program with no lift shift? Wouldn't that be enough? If your worried about the loss of power from letting your foot of the gas for 1-2 seconds your probably tuned already. If your not tuned, get tuned.

You posted other info while I was typing. I've seen cars with melted bumpers. Probably because of one of those.

Keep it in the powerband and there is no lag with this turbo. Mine literally starts building boost as soon as I hit the throttle.

Well I know. Unless I were to put I bigger turbo there would be very little benefits performance wise unless I was to drift race. Which isnt really possible in these cars considering it's not rwd

The computer in this car does a lot to not let you have boost when you want it. Anti lag is fun and worth it If you make money on racing and need that boost 25/7. Road racing / autocross I could see the benefit. Drag racing just nls and that's built into the aftermarket tune.

I want to believe you're just trolling but I fear you're not. I'm guessing you're just young.

You don't buy an anti-lag "kit". It's not something you bolt on and go. You basically have to retard the spark in the tune to get ignition to happen in the turbo. It puts a lot of heat into the turbo and reduces longevity.

Get yourself a good turbo book. Start from the beginning and sponge up all the details of operation and terminology.

Our stock Sonic turbos have a teeny tiny turbine. Basically eliminating turbo lag. Anti-lag is more popular for large turbos that need a little help winding up, particularly for launching. 2-step is similar and safer, but again, unnecessary with the stock teeny tiny turbo.

The book on the left is a great introduction to all things turbo. You can search for it on Amazon.

The book second from left goes a little deeper into each component, but is hard to follow unless you've digested the basics.

Thank you, I will check into getting those. I know our turbo spools quickly ive just been really into hopped up sti's where guys run anti lag and similar stuff.

Prior to owning our turbo Sonic, we owned two Audi A4's. There were occasions where the turbo lag could be very noticeable, which was very surprising to me. I imagine the typical Audi owner never realized it. Driving the Sonic I immediately noticed how well Chevy tuned it out of our cars, it's much more responsive at low rpm than an Audi. I'm happy.

If you want to experience the true definition of turbo lag, go test drive a first gen Subaru WRX with an automatic.

You'll panic the first time you try to pull out in traffic and nothing happens.

You press the gas and you sense a little movement.
You press the gas more and the car will start to roll.
You get out and push while your buddy presses the gar further and the vehicle is starting to turn onto the road.
You get five more people to push while three others jam the pedal through the floor, you've hit 5mph and a truck is barreling down on your rear as you are trying to get moving.
You watch the sunset while praying to the gods for boost and your life as you are about to get run over by a Mack truck and finally the car just takes off like a rocket.

It really feels that bad.
