Sonic Thermostat Housing Covered Under engine drive train warranty.
I just thought I would post this for future reference about whether the T-stat and housing are covered by drive train warranty.
Daughters 2014 Sonic LT with 1.8L (73,000 miles) engine showed signs of "coolant disappearing". This was in late mid November when I helped him do the first of 2 transmission drain and fills.
. At first . . no visible wetness or leak. I told her hubby to keep an eye out on the T-stat housing area, hoses connected to it, water pump, etc.
Finally, small drips and a puddle under the car and it is -2F outside.
Told her to call our Chevy Dealer where she bought it. Explained what was happening, service "consultant" said, yup. . covered. They also replaced the smaller tube/hose that connects to the top of the T-stat housing, an oil line or cap somewhere that was causing a code, and topped off the coolant. All at no charge.
I am going to check if they installed the newer upgraded T-stat housing that has a metal T-stat part connected to the plastic housing. I see that part on a lot of online part vendors. Some still show the same old all plastic version.
I also bought her and myself a new air air inlet duct. The one from the air cleaner box to the throttle body. Not cracked yet , but for $18 discount price it's cheap insurance to assure no air leaks, lean burn conditions that can screw up the cat converter.
