Anyone with a Subwoofer install, please read

Note: If you did not personally install your subwoofer in your Sonic, please do not post here. This also applies if you don't have a subwoofer installed.
I know some of you guys work for Best Buy or other audio installers, so you can chime in even if you don't have a system. (sonic007, that means you too... )

Anyway, I'm finally about to be running my power wire, but I can't really find a good place in the firewall to push the wire. Where did you guys do it?

Also, what did you do for the actual battery connection? Did you remove that plastic bit over the positive terminal?

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

i ran it through the rubber grommet in the firewall. its right behind the battery, and i used a coat hanger and tied the power wire around it to get it through. As for the cap i just shave it to accommodate the power wire but am looking for a better solution

mine runs through the cavity straight back from the battery and is routed down through the plastic in the drivers side.

My friend and I did this. It wasn't easy. Get someone to poke needle nose pliers through grommet from engine bay and open the pliers to make the opening bigger. Pass the wire through from engine bay to you. Have another set of pliers to grab the wire from inside the car, back under the pedal. Its the perfect spot and you can run the wire right down the driver's side, and to the trunk, by tucking it under the plastic and down the side of the back seat. All of the plastic panels are held on by metal tabs or plastic clips that pop right off.

Yea the firewall is always the worst. We have in our bay a tool called a "wire insertion tool" :banana: That we use to run the wire through gromets. Its essentially a hollowed out screw driver that you can poke threw the gromet, then run the wire in through it. As a last resort if you cant find a gromet, you can drill your own hole and put your own gromet in. Just make sure to check both sides first.

As far as the battery terminal, you can use really any of the bolts on top of the battery. We usually use the one on top that holds the terminal onto the battery. Instead of using a ring terminal you have to use a fork terminal. This is because of how the nut is threaded onto the bolt. You cant take the bolt all the way off without stripping it.

Yeah I've always had to drill my own hole on my previous cars. I'm glad I asked first on the Sonic, I still need to look again for this gromet you guys are talking about.

That's kinda what I was thinking about doing for the battery terminal, but wasn't sure if that would be okay.


Last question I forgot to ask you guys.
Where did you guys ground? Did you drill your own hole in the truck and sand it down to bare metal? Or did you happen to find a hole you could use already? In my old Blazer, I was able to use a cargo mount anchor bolt, but I can't find an available bolt like that in the Sonic truck.

I used the lil half circle hoop right behind the rear seats but i have a sedan idk if is there on the hatch

Yea any metal back there would suffice. Stay away from body welds and such. If your going to drill any grounds in, watch out for the gas tank below. Sometimes you can use the seat belt bolts as well. Just depends on where you are putting the amps. Usually we would drill our own hole, then sand in down real nice, then install a bolt with star washer underneath. Then put some anti-corrosion gel on it to keep from rusting since you removed the paint.

On the battery post, you can remove the plastic. Just coat the entire post and terminal with dielectric grease.

Yea we usually just notch it out so the wire tucks nicely around it without removing all the plastic.
