Does anyone know if the automatic locks can be turned off? I'm speaking of the program that when you reach 8 mph all of the doors automatically lock. Other cars I have owned allow you to turn it off if you wish. Thanks!

You could pull your power lock fuse. That ought to fix it. 
Otherwise, wait 'til someone hacks the BCM (unlikely) or talk to your dealer. I haven't seen it in the vehicle settings.

Why? They unlock when you kill the ignition.

There is an unlock button on the dash, so you don't have to use the button on your key. Oh, and to open the locked doors from inside, you just have to pull the handle twice, unless child safety thing is on, then the back seat passengers are SOL on that.
The locking system is somewhat programmable, I have it set to unlock my door whenever it gets locked by the button, so I can't lock my key in the car even if I want to. But I don't remember seeing any way to override the "lock doors when you drive more than parking lot speed" option.
Also note there's something funny about how the hatch works, I think parking brake must be engaged in order to unlock it while the car is running? Different than the rules for the rest of the doors anyway.

Our first Sonic unlocked the doors when you put it in park, so if I stopped at a store the wife could run in real quick.
Obviously when we bought the 6M version this isn't the case as there is no park. She found this very annoying.
After a short amount of time you get used to pulling the door handle twice quick so no biggy.
Its more effort to hit the unlock button IMO.

Thanks for the replies. It may seem like someone is being just lazy of not wanting to push a button, but I don't like it. My preference is for the door locks stay unlocked all the time, unless I push the lock button. I don't like the double clutch door handle pull either. I realize the locks unlock when key is removed, but when I pull into my garage, I leave the key in it. Or, pull up somewhere, get out to put something in back, *#$n doors are locked. Its fine for those that want them to auto lock, but I don't. Just wish I could turn it off.

I find it annoying as he!! As well.
In my mind It's non sensical to have the doors auto lock anyway. Then I have to expend additional effort and time(albeit limited) to undo something that serves no real logical purpose.
What are the pro's of auto lock?
-harder for undesirables to enter in transit? Sounds useful every once in a blue moon.
-keep kids from falling out in transit?
This is minority stuff so far, as in limited probability and easy steps can be manually taken for such circumstances.

- cycles the locks more leading to premature failure (only matters long term)
-adds additional steps to get out of your car........ Yea. Yea pull the key and it unlocks, there are alot of instances where It's desirable to leave the key in.
-passengers don't usually know about the double pull (that's a nifty feature)
It is infinitely more likely for this feature to be unneeded than it is a benefit.
So why should I have to unlock my car to get out? It's so illogical, would it not make more sense to just hit the lock button in the few instances driving around in a locked car is a good thing?
Sorry for the rant but this is a stupid feature that fails on principle alone and should be defeatable, I don't like anything that is devoid of reason and costs me time or effort.

Well said six sonic, I agree 100%! If folks like the auto feature, fine, but give the rest of us the option of turning it off. Any other car I have owned with auto locks allows you to turn it off. Now, how can we make this happen?

Wow there's some lazy people on here! Ever try driving through Detroit or Chicago? You'll be wishing you had auto-locks. Auto-lock was originally designed as a safety feature to cut down on carjackings. Carjackers would wait by intersections and when you least expect it..Bam...open your door and you had a knife in your face. Sure the mechanism may wear out faster but I'd take safety over convience. I'm so used to it that the double clutch handle doesn't even phase me a second.

My girlfriend and I get in spats. She calls the "double-handle" safety thing a "think twice" type of precaution...incase she's threating to jump out of the car in anger, it makes her think twice.

oh yeah. I forgot to mention this in my post. Haha, I was literally going to tell the guy how to change the setting too. I changed my lighting to stay on for 2 mins too, just so I could piss my neighbors off at 3am when I park my car. :banana:
Good point about pulling into your own garage. I also don't remove car keys after parking in the garage, no reason to. I forgot about this inconvenience.

I'm going to see if I can change the program in the settings. As for car jackings, good luck with that because if you pick on this gray sonic your gonna have a 45 shoved in your nose. I also steer way clear of cities. I live out in the country and if you manage to break in my garage and get past the dogs and take my car, its insured.

Only unlocking options are available for adjustment within the configuration menu. There is nothing to change as far as locking behavior is concerned (except for delayed door locking when using the switch on the dash as you exit the vehicle.)

Well "ridetoslide" the idae of what you said is real nice. However very seldom does anyone (who has evil on their mind) actually announce that they are coming. Theives (and similar) are pros at sneaking up when you are not paying attention. And with most people today, with their noses stuck down in their smartphones. Carjackers can have a field day. If you are really aware, a carjacking wont likely happen and with your own (or my own, ETC) piece of heat. YUP you will not get jacked. But likely (if you ever do) it will happen when you dont see it, and he will have you manhandled long before you could think of your own gun. (Not just YOU, but every single person).
I dont much like the "LOCK" feature either, but it has proven to be safer. I do kinda wish we had the turn off feature but we dont.

Sorry, the thief or car jacking theory is not going to cut it where I live. All I want is to park my car in my garage and not have to remove my keys every time I have to get out of it like I have been doing for years. Yes I know I could leave the window down and reinsert them I suppose.

I'd think just hitting the unlock button would be easier.
