I found that the visibility when backing up my 2013 Sonic hatchback was marginal at best. Unfortunately my model does not have the backup camera so I decided to install an aftermarket backup sensor. I found one that replaces the rear license plate frame - no drilling holes in the bumper for the sensors. I installed it as described in the instructions with the addition of a switch to disable the sensor if necessary.
I am very satisfied with the result. The sensor starts beeping at about 5 feet and increases the beep rate as the distance gets closer.
What's in the box.
Connecting to the Sonic's backup light wires.
Wire routed along weatherstripping to hatch wire harness seal.
Switch mounted on hatch trim to allow shutting off system.
Switch accessible in hatch grip.
Beeper loud enough to allow mounting inside hatch.
Hole drilled in hatch under license plate.
License frame with sensors mounted to hatch.
Wire from sensor through to interior of hatch.
Backup light wire sealed with RTV at harness entry on hatch.
