Battery Issues?

Batteries have become noticeably more expensive over the last 10 years. I did some research in battery technology. It seems that batteries are more advanced when you look at the higher capacity ones. They are built to withstand extreme temps. Add in AGM technology and your over $100 on the low end. My sonic uses a H5 battery. Best deal I found was a exide or Bosch AGM for the buck. Exide makes batteries for Pep Boys under contract utilizing the Bosch brand. I only use AGM batteries for all my vehicles. More money but a much better battery. So far my sonic GM battery is holding out. 2 1/2 years in the Florida heat is good. I usually get 3 to 4 years on any battery I use in Florida. Hopefully the Bosch AGM battery which is next on the list will last 5 years or more.

$177.00 list for a 47 Series battery with only a 36 month free replacement warranty is a total rip off. It's not "average" - it's extremely high for a cheap aftermarket battery from an auto parts box store.



The imaginary "list" price for an ACDelco 47PG (top of the line battery for the Sonic) is only $138.99 - and we never sell them for that - as I sell batteries to new car dealers, used car dealers, independent repair shops and fleets.



I won't divulge the exact wholesale price that my customers pay, but it is under $100.00.



Typically my GM dealers don't even charge full "list" price - that's why I made the comment about the OP's reference to his dealer wanting $380.00 for a battery.

Man, I could care less at this point. I've pointed that out already. I came here to ask for help to see if there was any chance that it wasn't my battery, but it certainly was - but now it's turned in to who can say they know where the cheapest battery is. Like I said, my car is working. That's all that matters. I had to have something right then and there because when I found my car dead I was headed out of state. Thanks for the input, but it was unneccessary at this point.

I most assuredly wasn't trying to point out where to buy the cheapest battery.

I don't sell the cheapest batteries as I only sell ACDelco and Motorcraft batteries.

Just trying to educate people for future battery purchases. At some point in time, even you will be in the market for another battery.
