New here and this is my first post. I hope someone can help out. We have a 2012 Sonic LTZ 1.4 turbo with 55,000 km (approx. 34,000 miles) on the clock. The car runs just fine. Yesterday, the battery light began to flash and has not stopped. We have turned the car off, let it sit but the light still flashes. It is still under warranty but I was hoping that someone here may be able to advise what to look for prior to taking it in.

Most likely a failing alternator. It wouldn't be uncommon to have an ABS/traction control lights to be lit up along with the battery light when this happens.
Get your car to the dealer. If you don't have a voltmeter to test voltage being output by alternator, I'd not risk driving to dealer if they are more than a few miles away.

Don't know about "transport mode" but do know car batteries have died when transporting takes too long.

Interesting find... Did they offer any suggestions on how that may have been enabled?
The internets have some how-to's on enabling/disabling this transport mode. Haven't seen one specific to the Sonic yet, but the others may apply. Not going to try it on mine despite my newfound curiosity.

Transport Mode may be left on while the vehicle is in dealer inventory. The method to turn the mode off is the same as to turn the mode on.
2011-2013 Vehicle Procedure
To turn the Transport Mode On/Off:
1. Start the engine
2. Activate the hazard flashers
3. Press the brake pedal
4. Press and hold the Start/Stop button (if equipped) or turn the ignition key to the crank position for 15 seconds

My guess is it shuts down all power if the key isn't on. If you know how to use a amp meter it's an easy test. If I recall correctly gm acceptable load with key and all lights off is 50mAmps or .050 amps. If it shuts down all factory systems it should be 0.000 amps unless you have aftermarket electronics in the car.

Good to know, I had a spark come in to the shop with that issue (new, rental car, very low miles), and we referred it to the dealer because even though it was charging fine the light was on. I wasn't aware that they integrated a function like that.

You are stuck in transport mode. turn the engine ON, while the engine is RUNNING, press the brake pedal, activate your hazards, then turn the key forward for 15 seconds. Turning the key forward while the engine is running will NOT hurt the car, I was stuck in transport mode for a whole week.
