Car photography newb

Im an avid weather photographer and storm spotter. Im also big on photographing jets and aircraft. Im starting to get into photoshoots for cars. Im looking for any advise anyone may have. I took a few quick shots after work with minimal editing...

Yea I noticed with my camera if I make the exposures too long they tend to be grainy..so I have to have like a street light nearby or parking lot light..

Haha very true...I figured the best way to show off a blacked out car would be at night..Im workng on a few more places to take some shots..

Yea im gonna try to get somewhere darker, then use a flash with the zoom to make it where only the headlights light up..maybe a little bit of experimenting later..lol

Use natural or soft background lighting (instead of the flash) and don't take shots on the dark side of a car.

Yea i try to get in a parking lot or somewhere with a street light. The flash thing didnt go so well.

I have a nikon d3000 with 3 diff lenses i switch between depending on distance. I use photoscape for all my editing. It was free and works really well for me. Lol

ahh yay nikon i have a D5000 and i have lightroom 4 and photoshop cs6. You can download light room with a 30 day free trail, and i can get you a serial number for the whole program if you would like

I like cannon's because there's more aftermarket lenses. one of the best lenses i have only cost like 50 bucks lol.

All of the photos look way underexposed to me, especially the first one. Checked the exif data for your shots, but it appears that info is left off during your processing. Care to list the camera settings for some of the shots?

I have like the cheapest canon dslr lol, you really don't have to have the latest and greatest DSLR to take awesome pics. the Lenses count for a lot of it. I just have a canon T3 but I can take amazing photos with it. Someone on another forum wanted one of my pictures so he could make a picture to hang in his office and a graphic designer approached me and wanted to use one of my photos for a pet photography seminar banner that hung in a shop's window. So you don't have to have the best DSLR out there. Shoot I went to an airshow and Was standing next to guys that had DSLR's that probably costed 3x what mine did but probably didn't take that much better of a photo.

Don't be so sure of that. There was probably a reason they had professional gear and you didn't.

By the way, do you have a link to your photo gallery (other than Sonic pics)?
