Chevrolet Sonic change Steering Column.

So i have a Chevy Sonic 2011 and having trouble with the steering wheel. It was a big big adventure of many mechanics to figure out what the problem was. I have changed suspension, suspension struts, motor mounts, tyres did 3 alignments and the wheel always kept turning left dragging also the car left. The wheel feel slightly harder to turn right and easier on the left. To keep it going straight I always have to use force on the right to keep it going straight it is much more noticeable in city speed and easier on highway. After finding the correct mechanic he told the electric steering column is the problem and can only be fixed if change it with a new one (can’t afford a new one so i i will have to search for one that has been rebuilt) what is your opinion have you ever heard of a problem like this for a sonic? Is there no way to fix the electronics cheaper. My mechanic told he has tried to fix them in the past but it is impossible to find oem parts so the aftermarkets made more problems than they solved.
