Chevy S10 help needed pls..

I have a 02 LS V6 S10 that I let sit for the year and half..was stupid and didnt start it in that time frame. :sadbanana: Now that I need to move I really need to get it going. It sat mainly due to tags being out and couldn't afford to renew and one thing led to another and it sat...well I did an oil change replaced the cap and rotor replaced the battery...started up and drove around my neighborhood. It ran fine. Got on it a little bit no big deal, all was normal, I did this last week also before I changed said items and it was normal,drove it for about 15 min, changed said item this week and did the same run, pulled into my drive way and revved it up to about 1.5k for a minute or so then the truck started to run super ruff and shut down. Restarted and it idled horrible, wouldn't go above 1k. Then died again. This time I could smell a funky odor. Then after that, all it would do would crank and not fire up.

Today I replaced the fuel filter-spark plugs-plug wires, drained the gas as much as I could, I cycled the fuel pump on and off to get what was left out. I replaced with 91oct gas, 2 gals. And added lucas fuel treatment. I then went to start, again all it did was crank and no fire...I went as far as to remove the intake and open the butterfly and pour about a shot gas of fuel into the throttle body, again nothing but crank...after about 20min of doing this it did fire up and hold idle at about 600 rpm..it would kinda dip below 500 and chug a little then go back up to 600ish...held idle for about 10min and everything went up to normal temps...I gave it a little gas to bring my rpms up and it started to struggle again and choke and die...turned it over and started right up...ran for a minute then started to struggle and die again...then all i get now is crank no start up...I just went and got another 2 gals of 91oct and some chevron Tech fuel additive added half that bottle and the 2 gals of gas and all I am getting is crank..I of coursed primed the gas a couple of cycles...

I am so stumped right now I have no idea what to do next...the gas tank is plastic. I hear the fuel pump priming but maybe its just not pushing the gas through? Maybe the injectors are toast? Any one with any idea? I figured after putting some gas in the throttle body it would of fired up... but nope.......

Check for spark from the coil. The 4.3 is known for coil and ignition control module issues.

bad gas still in the lines, clogging injectors?

One way to check each, disconnect battery, pull out an injector and put in a plastic Ziploc (with fuel line still attached)..turn it over...does it squirt gas? Do this for each.

Double check all vacuum lines!

Disconnect all fuel injectors from line and clear out the fuel rail too...

Thanks guys... I will go and replace the Ign coil, its only 40bucks and the truck has over 200k. Never replaced that part yet. The truck has an odd fuel delivery system, it has the fuel injectors connected to a box and looks like an octopus, will try and dig each one out and see if there is fluid coming out at least..... Does not have the conventional fuel rail.

The CMPFI system needs a minimum of 43 PSI to get the poppet nozzle to open. If its low the poppet might not open or it might only open part way.

so beat....kicking my ass...replaced the ign coil...still only cranks...I did a test of the ICM and according to the test the Ign coil is bad...its brand new...not sure what I did wrong..I did the test of the ICM and it seem like it passes, I then checked voltage on the crank sensor...I get 10volts on the signal wire and when I turn the pulley the voltage drop to almost zero which I hear the fuel pump prime then once that stops the voltage goes back up to 10volts, it does that every time I turn the pulley....I tested the 12v wire to the crank sensor and it only reads 11v I have 12v at the battery....not sure if that is an issue...I also noted that there is a bleeder valve on the fuel line at the throttle body, I pushed in the nipple and it shot some gas out then nothing...I cranked the motor a couple times and pressed the valve again and it shot some gas out then nothing, assuming its pressurized at that point....

How about a clogged fuel filter? It happened to my sentra winter beater once. Basically all the gas that was left sucked up what ever was at the bottom of gas tank sediments and clogged the filter. This might or might not be your problem but might be a place to check as well.

just put a new one in, after i drained the tank of most of the gas in it...the tank is plastic, so i dont think the chances are high for crap being in the gas..plus i didnt notice anything floating in the pan when i drained what i could out..

Couple of common possibilities here. Fuel spiders tend to go bad, but usually don't cause a no start. If you have no spark coming from the coil, the last few that I've had have been an ignition switch issue. The only way to get a definite diagnosis is to check the powers and grounds at your ignition relay using a wiring diagram. A less "scientific" way that can help pinpoint it sometimes is to wiggle the ignition key up and down while cranking. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, but it's easy and worth a shot.

I don't remember the color of the wire off the top of my head (I believe one pink and one yellow) going to the ignition coil. But check for power here. The last one I had with the same issues would have have power for a split second when cranking started, then lose it.

Thank you..just another rabbit hole to start down...so glad I dont do this for a living... I love to trouble shoot every one else problems, but my own ;-p I am thinking about getting a fuel pressure check to tap onto the check valve just before the injector spider to try and stop thinking its the pump..will try and do the wiggle trick, thanks. I had good power/ground at the ICM but I didnt check the coil plug.

Not a bad idea to check the fuel pressure just to make absolute certain. Typically, if you can hear the fuel pump on these trucks, you won't have a no start from low pressure, just might run like sh**. Also the fact that you dumped fuel down the throttle body and got nothing would lead me to a spark issue. Just need to narrow down where you are losing it.

Also had another truck that had plenty of spark from the coil, and lost it at the cap. Relatively new cap installed on it, so I overlooked it for about an hour, driving myself nuts testing the ICM and coil, checking all wires, etc. Long story short, new parts don't necessarily mean good parts. Sometimes wish I didn't do this stuff for a living...

Deffinately verify wether its a fuel problem or an ignition problem. A simple HEI spark tester should do the trick and only cost a few bucks.

Last summer I had a very similar issue with my boat (5.7 throttle body injected). The boat sat for 5 years with stabilizer in the gas (I didn't have time or money for the boat). After installing a new battery and running in the yard for over an hour I took it down to the water. About 5 min away from the dock the fuel pump started making noise, the engine was still running good but I decided to head back and replace the pump. After replacing the pump the engine started, ran for about 2 min and died. It would restart most times but only stay running for 5-10 seconds. I checked the spark, fuel pressure, and codes. Everything was normal including the spray pattern from the 2 fuel injectors (you can see them on the rochester tbi). Just for the hell of it I took the tbi apart. The screens on the injectors were clogged with a yellow sand like substance. After cleaning and reassembly (all original parts including ripped gaskets) the engine ran as good as it did when it was new. I have since replaced the gaskets and orings.

After talking to a few people who have more recent experience with gas engines (I switched to diesel 15+ years ago) they said stale gas with ethanol doesn't turn to the brown varnish like pure gas did. It turns to a yellow goo. If the goo dries out it crumbles into a sand like substance.

Thanks so much guys..I am pretty sure I have around 100k on the "spider" injectors..I need to try and take the coil wire off my cap and see if it sparks to ground..havent tried that one yet...I am going bonkers in my skull and trying to many different things at once.. Just so weird how it worked one minute then took a dumb the next and no idea why... i am just a self taught broke wrench turner ;-p wished I spent more time with my dad doing this when i was a kid...

I sure would make sure the injectors are squirting... if dirt got all the way do them, they'd not fire properly...

so todays test...I took the ign coil wire off of the cap and put it close to ground and cranked, got spark, nice strong white spark...took the #2 wire of the spark plug and put that one to ground and cranked, again nice white spark..I poured fuel into the throttle body again...I would crank and after about 3-5secs of crank it would sound like a cough and shut down...did this a couple times same results...Should I do the spark test for all the spark plug wires? waiting for EDD payment before I go and buy the fuel pressure tester :-( so to me I have spark,so I am back to bad fuel pump or bad injectors... will look into pulling the fuel injectors out and try and fire em up when cranking...but first i got a little side job to make a little extra $ so this test is gonna have to wait a bit...

Without comparing a known good injector to your injectors it may be hard to tell if the spray pattern is good. Like I said earlier, on my boat I can see the injectors spraying. They looked fine, even after cleaning the injector screens I didn't notice any difference. The engine did though.

pretty sure I have an old style spider fuel injector pack in my truck, been looking over the net and it looks like its been updated, summit has ac delco for 250 and a knock off for 217..cheapest ive found so far....My new fuel pump and steel gas tank showed up today -_- ... wish I would of held off before buying that stuff... only cost 187 for both so I guess having for back up was worth it at the least...

Thank god for Loan a tool! Love autozone right now. I hooked up a fuel pressure tester to the nipple next to the "spider" and I got 60psi when I primed the truck, then the pressure dropped to 55ish, when I go to crank the pressure jumps up to 60psi and continues to hold that while cranking. So really starting to think/feel injector pack is faulty, since I have spark and good pressure up to it. Thoughts?

side note/thought...as much as I have been kicking over and pumping/hold gas peddle down, wouldnt I at least smell gas? Because I dont smell a thing after doing any of that for over 30min...
