I really don't think that's accurate. I am not saying that ZZP is intentionally lying about gains, but something doesn't sound right.

I monitor my intake temps and the zzp was normally well over 10 degrees above ambient because no heat shield. I have had times where air intake temps with the mpfab are within a degree of ambient.

Colder intake temps are going to yield more power.

Any intake that is not shielded from heat within the engine bay is not really a 'cold air intake', it's more of a 'short ram intake'. The stock air box is actually more of a CAI than that ZZP, the stock just doesn't pass as much airflow.

Both dry filters and oiled filters are effective. The only concern with the K&N (oiled) is you have to be careful not to over oil the filter, and after oiling it you should pat it down with a shop towel and leave it standing outside the vehicle for a few hours before re-installing it; otherwise any excess oil particles that get atomized with the force of incoming air can be damaging to the MAF sensor.

K&N specs a 7.05hp increase for the 1.4t, and that seems like a reasonable number

I installed the Morgan CAI. No screen and no powder coating. I took the amsoil filter option. What I did was add heat shields sticky pads on the heatshield and the heat shield tape on the intake tube from end to end. Morgan has a nice setup but the tube is metal and it gets hot from the exhaust manifold, radiator and turbo. So adding the heatshields will keep the intake air as cool as possible before it gets compressed. I use a scan gage to monitor my boosted air temp. The closest reference I have is the ambient temp reading. So running down the highway at road temps in the 90's, I'm getting a 12 degree difference. At night with temps in the low to mid 80's I get a 6 to 10 degree difference. When I'm sitting in traffic on a hot day I've seen IAT reach 143 degrees. My next mod will be ZZ Performance exhaust. Mid pipe back with high flow cat and muffler. I'm still thinking about the ZZ Performance intercooler.

Dyno tested with the hood open so it doesn't reflect real world conditions. Also any claimed gains will be learn out by the ECU unless you get an aftermarket tune.

I've seen many K&N that comes over oiled form the factory(plastic bag has an inch of oil inside). Why would anyone want to risk contaminating the MAF sensor and use a filter that doesn't clean the air as good? There is numerous test online that show how inferior K&N is at actually filtering the air, a factory filter out preforms it. Why do you think K&N themselves came out with the Blackhawk line of non-oiled filters?

Over the years we all thought K&N airfilters were the best. Little did we know how much more dirt we passed through the K&N airfilter. With more sensors on late model engines the oil in the K&N would pass through and build up on the M.A.F. sensor over time. Here is a link I came across on a study done on airfilters. Look at the charts and you will see how bad a K&N filter ranks. The best is the Amsoil filter which Morgan offers as an option.
