Coolant smell

2014 LTZ, no mods. Noticed a coolant smell in the engine bay and some staining on the front of the engine. I purchased this a few months ago so I took it back to the dealership. They did pressure tests and dye and couldn’t find any leaks. They said they want me to drive it for a week and then recheck. Is this reasonable? Being a certified Chevrolet repair shop I would think they’d be able to diagnose pretty much everything.

Check the bottom of your overflow/expansion tank see if their is any moisture their also the hose off the top of expansion tank connects directly across to your water outlet pump and it is plastic mine failed on me pretty quickly but just watch your coolant levels and your dash while driving to make sure it’s not overheating mine was just doing the same bc I had leak for the 4th time on a expansion tank they easily crack or just get damaged. Do you know if your losing coolant or if it’s boiling over, mine will give the smell the hotter it gets and when I’m low on coolant. And if their is no problems in any of those on the left side of engine when looking at it you have the thermostat housing on the motor where lower radiator hose connects it’s possible it could be getting stuck. Your heater core could put the smell off as well and more importantly one of the easiest culprits to check is behind your glove box in a little rectangle compartment door being your cabin air filter if it’s just a non reuseable paper one you should change it periodically it will start to put off crazy smells in your car when dirty and also can get clogged up with leaves and such. I would just check that first prolly change it it’s not much and easy job to do restores a lil clean air in the cabin. And just keep an eye on all the other things if you are noticeably losing coolant or overheating do not drive it until you solve the issue or you will have greater problems to deal with

I haven’t had to add any coolant and there’s no dripping but I’m still concerned about it. It hasn’t been overheating, I’ll check the reservoir when I have time.
