I assume the grill over the tube is an air straightener? Without that the MAF readings might not be as accurate, but who knows without logging before/after.
honestly, it looks more like a plastic mesh screen. Everything i know as well as read about research on velocity stacks goes against putting the screen over it. The whole idea behind the stack is to get rid of the sharp angles and for all the flow to be linear. This grille can't do anything but make the air tumble and be chaotic. But you are correct.. it would have to be data logged and sent to vince to make sure removing the obstruction didn't adversely effect flow in a negative way. But I don't see anyway removing it would be adverse unless you didn't have a custom tune. (in which case don't mess with it!!.. haha)
