distance / miles to get fuel problem with gauge?

opcorn: is because I've not replaced any of the newer sending units and couldn't speak with clarity when talking about why the change in reading. I am day by day becoming a spectator to car repair..... kind of like watching a movie.

not right place maybe... am trying for 700 plus miles on a tank. been told there is a risk of damage by using the filler tube for the extra fuel. have been able to push an extra 1.35 gallons so far. at 56 mpg.... I could do 720 maybe with 1/2 gallon left in the tank.

Obviously you dont have a 1.8, but if you had the correct mods and drove in the correct manner I dont see why you couldnt pull it off.

My goal is to hit 50 MPG before I do a 6 speed swap. I suspect a decent chunk of the 1.4 economy advantage comes down to gearing.

you can call it gearing but I drove a cruze while they replaced my trans(6 sp) and the automatic would not let me keep my rpm down. even manually shifting they were higher by 400 rpm then I can do in my car. if you get the 1.8 and the auto mileage can't match the 1.4 stick turbo or not.....unless you can get the shift points to change in the computer....
