I bought a little POS netbook for $140 and use it exclusively for Trifecta. I'd hate to give my car a virus... at any rate, they tend to be Win 7 so no worries.
I was told that windows 8 has a compatibility mode for running programs. I don't know how to use it or get to it but this comes from a computer major at my college when I asked him about windows 8.
Yes it works with Windows 8. I have a Acer Iconia W500 I use for programming PLC's at work. I threw Win8 on it to play around and the EZFlash software worked without issues.

You are correct. I think all fairly recent Windows editions have come with compatibility mode. You generally right click on a program icon, go to the properties menu, go to the compatibility tab, and select the compatibility mode you want.
Regardless, it has been confirmed that it works, so no worries.
