Domo?

I have noticed that Domo guy is pretty popular with import car owners to hang off their mirrors. I also notice that people like to hang fluffy figures off their mirrors. What is so special about this Domo guy? Isn't there something similar to him that is pretty popular with the import car owners too?

Yes I know that hanging off an fluffy toy off the back of your bumper means that you want to do some illegal street racing. Seems to be popular with ricers that are all cambered and dragging on the ground.

The Scirocco guys have gotten into little rubber ducks on keychains - I think it came from the name for the early cars front spoiler "duck bill spoiler". Apparently these things come in all varieties (IE, Pirate ducks, Doctor ducks, etc).

Its silly but fun - at the Scirocco annual gathering they mysteriously appear hanging off your rear tow hook.

Wut? Is that really what people treat them as now, or did you just get that from that one street racing documentary on youtube or TV where the police just assumed that?

From what I understand, the random things that people stick on the back of the car are called "Drift charms".

Some say, this originated from bosozoku gang members stealing public train handles (tsurikawas) and hanging them off the back of their cars to show how rebellious they were. Others say that these were put on cars to show off how low the car was.

And then somehow, this transitioned into fluffy stuffed animals, and I guess that caught on when people started getting into "JDM" and drifting car culture and whatnot.

In other words, it's just a form of decoration.

As for why Domo, I would assume it's because he's the mascot of a Japanese TV station.

I always wondered why the spelling was changed from doumo to domo. I guess they figured Americans would pronounce it dowmo.
