ECO button?

Having driven turbo cars before, lag on a **** is not really an issue I would worry about. Sure I would loose all positive pressure, but it was back real damn fast once I got back on the throttle. At the track I just didnt lift on the 2-3 and 3-4 shifts and I lost almost no pressure in that moment of no real load on the engine.

I would have no problem with a Sonic having a TD and a 6MT in it. I know why the Cruze Eco diesel only has an auto, but I hope in the next year or so they decide to add a 6MT as an option.

One of the very first Sonic mysteries. Still unsolved if memory serves. One guess: the Sonic is an international vehicle and that light might be there for that reason and another speculated there may be future plans for an ECO Sonic.

That is all I can recall.

Pretty much this. I just assumed it was for the automatic transmissions, Seeing as the dash is the same for manuals and autos. But if the autos here say they do not have an eco mode than chevy somewhere has a Sonic with eco mode. I rented a KIA once with "eco" and with it enganged it shifts sooner trying to keep the revs lower to save gas.

The "Eco" mode in some of GM's cars alter the way the vehicle runs in several ways - most that would be unacceptable for the "average" customer - but would be acceptable to someone willing to give up a little of NVH and performance in trade for better fuel economy.

Stuff like:
Lower idle speed
lower A/C performance
different shift schedules for A/T vehicles

Yep,

There is no eco mode on the Sonic.

Would not want another manual diesel.

Diesels and autos go together very well.

In fact if you look at the diesel power challenges( diesel power had an article about this ) a manual trans diesel has never won. Always an auto.

With the auto the turbo never drops out unlike the manual.

In fact we traded our first cummins in for another one with an auto. You would have it screaming at red line pulling a hill (fully loaded with a trailer mind you) and the moment you touched the clutch the turbo unspooled and it was an SOB to get spooled again and 9 times out of 10 you down shifted again

It all depends on how you pronounce it. Standard pronunciation of the abbreviation is S.O.B with all three letters pronounced separately vs. sob (like a crying sob). So you'll say "He's an S.O.B."; if you pronounced it as an adjective "sob", then it'd be different. I've never heard anyone pronounce that as an adjective "sob", though. If you spelled it out to son of a bitch, that'd be different too, of course.

Then you're correction to his sentence was wrong.

It should have been "a S.O.B." not "an sob".

Either way you were wrong twice because it would've been "a sob" if it was a word and not an abbreviation.

Nah. Notice that I have it as "an SOB" and not as "an sob" as you've suggested. The original post was listed as "a sob", which is incorrect.

You can use the acronym either as SOB or S.O.B. I've placed the comas to illustrate that one would pronounce each letter separately. If that's the case, you have to use "an" since you're going to say "He called me an es oh bee". Saying it it otherwise would be as awkward as saying " I have a apple".

The reason for this is because each letter is pronounced separately so grammatically, the pronunciation of the letter "S" would follow the grammatical rule of word "ass" simply due to phonetic usage in this case. At the very basic level (there are exceptions) "an" is used in front of vowels and "a" in front of consonants. Obvious exception would be "an hour" and some others.

Here's a link to what I'm talking about. Essentially if the abbreviation begins with a vowel-sounding letter, you use "an". So if you pronounce is each letter in the SOB separately (ess oh bee), then you have to use an "an".

But much like everything else in life, there are different schools of thought on this linguistically. To me, it just sounds jagged and unnatural to say " a ess oh bee".

So in Europe they don't have child safety locks?

I bet with some serious re-wiring we could run Trifecta's Select-a-tune off that button, and buy the buttons for Europe to have correct lables, and also figure out how to make the Eco light in the display work. Of course I'd have to break into the display to make it read "blue pill" and "red pill" but by that point, what's a little more vandalism?

Kinda hard to do anything with the display when the firmware is likely locked, no? Unless you write new stuff from scratch anyway and that would be a nitemare.
