Exhaust Back Pressure

The DDMW pipes are 2.25". Are there bigger set-ups from somewhere else?
I'm a week away from ordering the DDMW, just curious what the opinions are on the other options.

Pressure differential is what moves fluids and gases. They flow from high to low pressure. The higher the PD, the faster they flow, which is optimal with driving a turbine. Any "tuned" backpressure post-turbo would have diminishing returns against the gains of winding up the turbo faster. Long story short.... gains will be greater from the post-turbo exhaust gases finding the shortest, least restrictive path back to atmospheric pressure.

I'm in South Texas, ish, and Saturday I'll be getting a 2.5" pipe put in after my cat. no more second cat or resonator. I'm a little skeptical as to removing the resonator, but we'll see how I like it.

Also, I'm interested in seeing a 20" exhaust working better than a 3" exhaust on our cars.

Or more realistically, no exhaust pipe at all vs. a 2.5" pipe. maybe if somebody gets a turbo back straight pipe they could test that for me.

Are you having a pre-fabbed system put in or are you having a shop pipe it in? I have a MIG and am considering building my own. The kits are only $200. It won't be Stainless Steel though which is one downside.

I'm having a buddy at a shop do it. It's stainless steel. He wouldn't let me offer to pay though, he just wants my cat. Go figure.

Get a company that actually knows how to design something and you'll be ok. ;-)

I think he meant that as tuning, and tuning is not necessary, because you should just get the biggest monster of a pipe you can, which I'm sure we both disagree with.

In a sense, that is what I meant. Obviously there comes a point when larger pipe diameters become overkill. It is generally accepted that a 2.5" pipe will flow more than enough exhaust for the Sonic's power level.

Though I would go 3" just for the deeper tone.

Preloader, SLP makes a HB cat back at 2.5", that's what I plan on going with on my Sedan and figuring out the tailpipe.

Laborsmith, I believe that Stratton went with a resonator only and a double walled tip on his 2.5" custom cat back. DDM recommends a resonator only on turbos and muffler only on 1.8's, I plan to go with both since SLP uses a straight through muffler and resonator. I like my exhuast quite.

after hearing it i think it sounds way good.

the only thing i dont like about it is when you romp on it hard and grind the **** out of 2nd. :banana:

I think we were both right after re-reading your post. I some how missed the last part of your sentence, I think my eyes read resonator and brain comprehended muffler. Re-read your post and you clearly have resonator there.
