Foot Well Lights

Greetings fellow Sonic Owners – I picked up my Sonic less than a week ago.

First thing I did - was to install an Elbow Pad on the Driver’s Side Door for my elbow. – Darn hard plastic and old elbows.

2nd - I Painted the Front Calipers Black to match the Rear Drums (thinking Red would be just too funky not having disks all around)

3rd - I installed a Second Horn on the passenger’s side, slightly off-pitch from the OEM horn – Dealer told me in 21 years he’s never had anyone do such – I told him he needs to get out of the office more often I bumped the OEM Horn Fuse from 15 amp to 20 amps – Still have to trim the cable & ties. Red area kinda shows where it is located - (you can almost see a tab)

4th - I put some blue Led Strips in the Foot Well areas to help illuminate the floor & also shine out onto the entrance areas when the door opens. No, they don’t flash to the music nor change colors – I’m too old for that. I tied them into the Overhead / Dome Lights so that they would fade down once the door is closed. They only draw a ¼ amp (ttl) therefor I’ve not (yet) bumped the dome fuse any higher.

I think I’m done for a while. I bought the car for a daily commuter and to run through the rain and winter months saving the 08 Sky for nice weather. I replaced my 88 Fiero, it was getting a bit old and let me down last winter when the (bottom) of the gas tank decided to start leaking. T’was no fun pulling a ½ full tank in the dead of winter but we managed.

I look forward to sharing Sonic Info over the next 15 / 20 /25 or more years.

Yeah, I want some LED's for the footwells too...good idea. What did you use for the elbow pad (mine is a PITA too!)?

Had some sticky sided dense foam squares sitting around home. Made it two pieces thick. Did the same for my Saturn Sky console.

Sorry Buck - just made them from some rough material I had.

Perhaps a Typing Gel Pad from some sort of Office Supply House would work nicely? – May have to see what else is out there someday.

I think I saw a write up on how to do it, but I cant find it, I have blue foot lights too and I wanna do the same, what wire(s) etc did u have to tap and stuff to make it work with the dome lights?? lookin good!

I first went into the Dome Light to see just what wire colors are involved. The Gray is the one that fades down, the White w/Brown is 12v all the time (for the dome switches) and the black is Gnd.

Thought of tapping in there and running the wires across the roof & down the “A” Pillar… but rather than mess with the Air Pillar because of the Air Bag (which very well might have been no trouble) – I began my search under the dash. Found a group of wires that had the White w/Brown tracer and a Gray.

I momentarily forgot just which of the two I was after and stabbed the White w/Gray… noticed it was 12v all the time (until the 5 mins battery protect ran out) then stabbed the Gray. Its very tight under there so I bared a bit of the Gray and tested the LED strip to Gnd and was pleased to see it was the correct one. Rather than stab & tap a Black I just grounded to the Dash supports.

I have been wanting to make a door elbow pad for sometime now. My arm goes numb from the hardness of the plastic often . My idea was to find/make some sort of pad and attach a piece of metal to the underside. Then remove the door panel and mount a magnet to the underside of the door rest so it will hold the pad in place and be removable. Non permanent solutions have been my theme on my car, all my mods can be removed 100% and back to stock pretty easily.

Traded in the Fiero. It was well worn after 25 years and just not very safe anymore. Did not want to sell nor give it to anyone I knew. Felt mighty comfortable, went great in the snow but was only getting 17 mpg. Everything leaked and was getting mighty rusty and hard to work on. Plus the paint was real bad.

Served me well, I loved that ol car. Sad, but indeed time to go. – Could always buy a decent clean one again for ~7K. Naaaa

I've been wanting to do that since my first week of driving my Sonic. I could've been doing that soon, but I recently saw the tutorial to getting to the horns, and it looks more of a pain than I hoped for. The OEM horns sound cool, or dare I say cute, but are pretty inaudible in traffic. So you just wired the extra horn off of the existing ones in parallel and found a spot to put it?

Yes, I paralleled off the existing HORN (no plural “s”) and bumped up the fuse a bit.

Placed it much like the original horn, however on the Passenger Side – A bit of a tight space to get at. – Sounds great!
