Front axle replacement

How necessary is it to replace the keyed washer at the end of the axles?

I'd like to install these tonight but Chevy dealer didn't have them in stock

Haven't gotten into this maintenance yet but stuff like that is usually to hold something in place, like a seal or something. Did the one you replaced have this washer? Perhaps take it to an auto parts store and see if they have one, washers like that are usually standard industry items.

Answer is yes.. When I got the passenger side axle out the washer was snapped. Flimsy things that have tabs that bend out when installed (captive washer). Just a few bucks at the dealership and they had to order them (came in next day, Friday, day before race day).

These were genuine Delco axles, perhaps aftermarket axles ship with them. I didn't want to take chances, I've abused the heck out of the stock axles and I'm impressed they went 75k.

Good to know skis, will order one for my next axle replacement.

I'm surprised they lasted that long too with your autocrossing. I've replaced two so far, a pass. side was torn up something awful at the outer CV joint.
