I know you need someone to try on a white trimmed weave on blue topaz metallic so I will have to throw my sedan out there to be a model, after all you only have 1 grille to work with.

These look amazing, the amount of engineering along with style really made a quality grille. A truly kick ass addition to the exterior mods category.

First, I have an RS so I hate you. (Not literally)
Second, if you made one to fit the RS, I find my self liking the cross drilled holes, but not the pitch/angle of the hole lines. Something in me is telling me that i would want to see the lines from the top of the hood over the lights continue their trajectory lines into the grill and cross at that angle all the way down for symmetrical reasons.... am I crazy for thinking that?

Thanks for all the kind words! I'm determined to get an RS version prototype by spring. I plan on purchasing an RS grill over the next few months and getting the details ironed out over the winter.
I have also been thinking of new trim/visual pattern ideas and appreciate any input. I do like the idea of tieing into the aggressive lines on the hood.

Id be in support of the aggresive hood lines continuing. I absolutely LOVE how aggressive the sonic looks.

Something else to consider...
I was talking to the ProShop guy at my dealership when I bought my car and he was telling me that someone with an RS ordered the ZSpec Grille to change the colors and it did not fit the RS. One of the reasons is that the RS Bowtie is apparently larger?
On another note:
I just was outside taking pictures of my car with the roof rack and cargobox I had on it to make a different thread and I was curious about my front RS grille. I know that everyone hates the mustache look of the car (hence this thread) and wants to remove it, but the crash beam is still there. Also, people who are required to have a front license plate seem to be having a small issue with placement for the plate.
I personally like my RS fog lights and so putting a plate in that area is out for me. Leaving it in stock location is an air dam and prevents air from getting to the intercooler. There are not many other options for placement then.
Consider this:
What about simply removing the bowtie from the front of the car, and creating a plate holder that attaches directly blow the top grate, and extends down over where the bowtie "would" have been, and shouldn't extend too far past where the crashbeam is located. This should maximize airflow and only sacrifice the badge in the front but giving you a good location for the plate.
Is this even possible? Well I am sure anything is possible, but is it something that could be done *fairly* inexpensive as an alternative plate location with one of these beautiful grilles? Maybe the mount could replace however the bowtie is attached and use that for the mounting point? Just kicking ideas around
Also, what is the height restriction of plates on the front of the vehicle, anyone know off the top of their head? (I'll see if I can find any info online.)

Any pics of the double weave grill yet??
Nothing new with the double weave yet. I now need to order more tabs and make new trim pieces. Finished this guy a couple weeks ago but hadn't posted any pics in here yet.

When I got my sample pack, it was the one that instantly stood out! I had to get a sheet of it. Should be getting started on the double weave unit in the next couple weeks.
I've been on and off lurking here for a while, and I've also been on and off on the idea of modding my 12 sonic ltz.
When I ran across this thread I was dead set on putting on the first grill you had tested. I just didn't like the rough texture.
But that double weave might change my decision if it were in black.
I also plan on putting a light bar just below the reinforcement bar to use with conjunction of the high beams.
With the first grill type you made should I be worried that the plastic might not hold up to high output LED's. I'm not sure what temp they can get to.
I'm also slightly worried it might block too much of the inter cooler. I live in the heat and keeping my car cool is important.
Especially since this car doesn't have an actual temp gauge.

UltraGauge? Mount any place you want and has something like 100 different gauges to choose from.

The texture is how most ABS plastic is made in sheet form. Its usually only on 1 side. For the slotted aluminum one I just used that side as my bonding side leaving the smooth out and router-ed the edges. This does require sanding/painting as ABS scratches easily w/o paint. This is also the reason the first prototypes had the texture, no painting needed and it hides rock chips/small scratches.
As far as heat is concerned, it will hold shape up to 176 degree F before deforming. Your bumpers, original grill and many other car parts on the sonic are injected molded ABS plastic. LED's should have zero effect on the grill.
The aluminum mesh/perforated metal can be ordered with gloss or matte powder-coat for an added cost from my supplier.
