That's some bad numbers you've got there. I can easily get over 36 driving around the urban sprawl I live in.

How fast were you going? That sounds about right for 75-80 mph, no wind no drafting semis, moderate temperature, and a few short stops along the way.

That's what I figured you'd do this trip to try and up the MPG, but I had to ask.
Not knowing all the variables of your driving style and not having a 1.8 to compare to I can only guess on what your MPG should be this trip.
My guess is that it's about right if not a little lower than it should be.
This is your best tank so far? Sorry i don't recall what you were getting before, just that it was way lower than it shoulda been

Hey guys new here until recently I was hanging around the Bonneville GXP forum , that's what got traded 04 dark ming blue Bonneville GXP 4.6 118000 mls on it and I was afraid of that Northstar breaking down. Great car great motor ran very strong. So I just bought a 2013 Mocha Bronze Metallic LS sedan 5sp. The Northstar would get 18 in the city and Sonic is getting 33 I only use top tier gas from Shell and only mid grade 89oct.

I average 30mpg in DC traffic, and that is well within the EPA range. And I was able to get that in the winter too. When I first got it, I took about 15 readings where I did math, and then compared to the computer numbers. Most fell within a standard deviation of .4, so I was satisfied with how the computer was calculating the mpg. I have been happy with my numbers, considering I came from a Jeep Cherokee that was getting a combined 16-17 mpg.

I for one dont have a clue how to mathimatically figure up the miles per gallon so i just let the on-board computer do it for me. so what if its slightly off. close enough and still is better than my previous vehicle of 12-14mpg in my 2006 Dodge Dakota 3.7L V6 Gas Hog. One week i spent $120 just in fuel to drive around and go here there and every which where i had to go. after that i said F this and started looking for a new vehicle. Thus now i drive a sonic. Much Better! i get anywhere from 22-36mpg combined driving ive yet to get my sonic pumped full of gas and then just hop right onto a highway and just run it til its almost empty to see what it can do. But i have faith it would be very nice considering ive already gotten 36mpg with it with combined highway and city driving. 1.8 Auto by the way

The simple way I did it was just take what I filled up the tank with, and divide that by the number of miles I traveled on the tank. It's not entirely accurate, because different pumps will have different cutoffs, but the number I got from that method was very close to the computer. So I just use the computer now.
I have taken two road trips in my Sonic, and I easily get 38 mpg on the highway. If I go to around 55-60mph, I can get over 40mpg. Like you, I came from a gas guzzler, and the Sonic has been great with gas mileage. My trip from DC to Austin and back only cost me about $315 or so. Much cheaper than an airplane ticket, and my Jeep when I used to do that drive ($580).

So on Monday I decided to fill up my sonic with chevron 93 octane….well
thirty nine miles later a bar finally goes out…mostly city I'm amazed. I've never been close to that not even on the freeway. I was driving the same calm way as with 87 octane. I was beginning to think that my gas meter was stuck or broken. Since I got my sonic I was just getting 21-24 city and 24-27 freeway. Today I do a long drive on the freeway I cant wait to see how it turns out. I hope it's not a one time thing, this is too much haha. Oh and I did the math myself cause the mpg meter says I have 28 but I counted

the difference in price compared to the better mpg is prolly a moot point less gas at more cost versus more gas at less cost :sadbanana:

i can drive from Prescott Valley Sam's club (fueling up) to north Scottsdale and get 48mpg everytime a light foot and the mountains help :banana:

That awesome first gallon mileage was just a one time thing...it didn't continue at all. Once again I didn't break 30mpg on the freeway, I almost did though. I achieved 29mpg (with ac on 1) on my 21 miles of straight freeway with some city driving. But then when I got on the freeway to go back home I got a poor 20 to the gallon...going 55mph non stop with ac on 1. ot off the freeway and bam another bar gone. I'm beginning to see that my sonic doesn't like straight freeway drives and does better with some city and some freeway combined not just freeway..? I would at least get 26mpg (with ac on 1) on the way back home with 87 octane on that drive. No 93 octane again for me, I will try 89 octane whenever my sonic gets hungry haha. Ohh and all of my mileage is hand calculated, that mpg meter is a liar lol

Just this afternoon drafting a semi down 95 south in Ft Lauderdale, 1.8 5spd.
And about 20 miles later about same speed and MPG still climbing.

Yeah me too, and that's with grandma driving. I can't wait until like a year or two to trade up to a turbo sonic or if a more eco version is released by then. When I got my sonic I thought turbo sonics only came in manual trans :blankface: I still really love this car though that's why I put up with the mpg mess, I still have hope in it I barely broke 4k miles on it.
