We can agree to disagree but knowing what I know about any kind of finish if you apply a new one over a bad failing one the new will fail also. Then you will say it was the cerakote failing when it was the application process.

I hope I am wrong because no one wants something to turn out bad. Taking mine out for the first time this weekend and can't wait to see how it does or if it will hold up.

Got an answer from a 3rd party 'smith that seems reputable on one of the forums. He mentioned that media blasting as prep work for cerakote will not remove pits from surface.

Seems that your guy did you a solid when he fixed yours for cerakoating. Good work there.

Having glass bead blasted pitted receivers before, the only ways to really remove pits are to fill or sand/grind. Bead blasting is good at removing old bluing and rust, but I never used it on melonite finish before.

Its a fun round for sure. I is like shooting a really hot 9mm. I need to get dies and some powder to start playing with loads for it.

As long as my buddy remembers I will have my 10mm dies, brass, bullets, and primers back today. Once I get some powder for that as well I can start playing around again.

The problem with many of these colt barrels for the super, depending on the era, is that the chamber is cut poorly so that the rounds headspace on the extractor, leading to inconsistent accuracy. I got a replacement barrel for mine.

I tried loading some lead without much success, eventually I'll have time (and hopefully money) to play with working up a decent load, but that will probably be a while.

I bought I think 1000 starling brass about 2 years ago that are ready and waiting.

Man that sucks and should not have worn like that at all in such a short period of time. I have friends who have had cerkoted guns for years and after about 5 years it looks like that with repeated draws and use, not after a few hours

The only way he can fix that is if he strips the gun because cerakote will not stick to cerakote. That means to strip the cerakote he has to strip the original finish also along with it, you should send him the application instructions from the manufacturer and see what he says about it.

Bizzare. The man truly did a huge number of very excellent work, from what I read in my research. He's been in business for a number of years and cerakote is basically all he does.

I am not saying the guy does bad work but maybe he had a new guy or an intern do it as a get your feet wet job and they didn't apply it properly? If he has a bunch of good reviews I cannot see why he would not try to make it right because sometimes all it takes is one bad review to mess it all up.

On another note here is my gun after about 500 rounds through it and I am very happy how well it cleaned up after and how the finish held up.

The finish wiped clean with a paper towel only and no cleaner for the most part and after I got the most off I could I wiped with an oiled patch and was done. Now the finish did chip around the ejection port and under the slide some but that is to be expected with the quantity of rounds shot in one trip.

All in all I am impressed with how it held up and performed under such stress plus it has cut my clean up time in 1/2. :banana:

Well, the owner was genuinely surprised and immediately stated that he'll refinish it for me and it might be ready today.

Well that is good to hear that he is taking car of the issue for you and hope it comes back perfect this time.

His suspicions were that he didn't get good adhesion on that part of the slide. When I left that day, I did notice that the area, which eventually peeled, looked shinier rather than flat matte color of of the other parts.

All of you who own guns at some point deliberate on which CLP is better.

Wonder no more and check out this link that I came across. This guy posts his own experiment and he lists in fine details all of the steps he's taken from prep to calculation to images and and videos. Over 40 products are tested head-to-head.

In my opinion, it's hard to get more thorough than this outside of an actual lab.

He's testing for water displacement, lubricity, corrosion protection and other non-essentials like smell. Smell is somewhat subjective, but his other tests are very objective and thorough.

Start with page 1 and scan through all 5 pages for his updates. He continues to give updates 40+ days into the testing.

As for me, since reading this I have switched to Hornady One shot for corrosion protection and lubrication of the slide. What I loved about Hornady's One Shot, is that you only have to wait 30 seconds after application, wipe off and you're left with a super-slick surface, which lasts even after a few hours in the holster. And since it's dry lube, there's no mess and no oil being soaked into the leather.

Highly recommend you check it out. Skip to his charts if you don't want to read through the entire thing.

Follow up. Been using Hornady's One Shot and it is great. I use it mainly on the slide for corrosion resistance. Quite happy with it and it seems to do as well as it claims.

Its been a while since I shot my PF-9. Took it to the range with my dad today since he wanted to test his out some. He has been having a lot of FTE issues and was testing out a theory. It didnt work out so well since he had issues at least twice per magazine. Well, after at least 600 rounds through mine since I picked it up I finally had a FTE. I had it happen twice on me today. In a way I am glad I stopped using it as a carry a while ago.

I want to like kel tec. They seem to be rather innovative, but their overall quality is lackluster, it seems, based on stories like yours.
