How about u just buy a part at a time. Thats what a lot of people do. They'll buy a stripped lower and then get other parts as time goes by eventually having enough for a complete rifle. It took me a year to complete my second AR because i was to busy with the sonic.

Ha! Just found this and read through every page. Awesome. Just started another AR build this morning. It'll be a pistol with a 10" barrel. Can't beat the buy/build as go. My first was a .300Blk. Won't say is it was a mistake but I don't shoot it hardly because it's just too dang expensive.

I just saw a bunch of 300blk 20 rd boxes for 15 bucks at Academy. Almost bought a couple of boxes because I'm considering adding a 300blk upper to the mix.

Great shooting round. Hits hard and not as loud. Buddy in Texas hunts hogs with one. Just a p linker for me though but I still like it.

Reminds me. I need to get to Walmart this weekend and get some more of those $10 aluminum case 9mm boxes. They ran great in my Walther.

Keep an eye on the chamber. I have seen a few handguns where the aluminum cases caused issues. They didnt expand and seal as well as brass and the chambers were burnt and pitted.

I need to try some different 9mm loads. Autocomp is too dirty for indoor range. So much for the idea of $6/50 range ammunition.

$6 for 50 rounds! Never find that in California. Another reason to wish i lived elsewhere. Under .25 a round considered a good deal.

I'll keep an eye on it, thank you. When I cleaned the gun after the last 150 rounds I didn't see any clear evidence of gasses escaping around the head of the cartridge.

It can be quite cheap when you reload. To make 9mm or even .38/.357 loads for $6/50 its going to be a target load only. Lead bullet and a low velocity, light on powder load.

It is ammusing when im at the range and shooting a few puff load .38s with a 148gr at maybe 625 fps and then drop in a 110gr .357 that should be doing about 1600-1700 fps. People stop snickering at the guy too weak to handle a real .357 in his revolver. I have heard the comments more than a couple times when shooting the puff loads. The full power .357 loads usually shut them up though. On one trip I had a guy start giving me some **** so I offered up one of my "proper" loads for him to try. He shut up real quick after firing off a couple from my 4" 686. Hi buddy was still going off about how I wasnt man enough to handle the recoil. Mind you he refused the offer to try it. I made sure he was watching and threw a few full power 140gr rounds in my SP101 2.25" and proceded to make a nice group in the target. His buddy promptly told him to knock it off since he wasnt man enough to do what I just did. I laughed the whole way back to the showroom.

The 110gr .357 and the 10mm always attract attention when I take them. I have introduced more than a few people to the joys of the 10mm. They all seem to smile after shooting it, even if they missed the target.

Only after you recoup the cost of your investment into the reloading equipment.

For an average shooter, it will take a few years to break even.

This is true, but I am not counting that cost in regards to handgun loads since it was purchased mainly for my rifles. Most of my rifles only shoot one specific load well, and it isn't a factory load.

This didn't sound like you were talking reloads . .

But to change the subject, yes of course reloading can be done more cheaply. Especially if you're not counting the cost of the equipment.

The 10mm and .357 dies are covered already and I am most of the way toward covering the press as it is. Maybe 1/3 of the 9mm dies is covered, but I only just started playing with 9mm.

To save significant money by reloading you have to shoot a decent amount, which is more than 50-100 rounds most shooters will send down range every 6 months or so. And, if you're doing much shooting, then you're spending a good amount of money on the hobby regardless, so "saving money" isn't really applicable any more anyway.

Reloading to save money is, in principle, similar to riding a motorcycle to save on gas. When you break down the costs, you're not saving much.

People ride bikes for the sake of riding bikes and people reload for the sake of a hobby, or to get the most performance out of their firearms.
