Headrest Insanity - Finally Solved!

I was afraid bending them would cause silver flakes to come off and it would crack. Good to see people are working it out.
Hopefully there will be a consensus as to how far down the bend should be and the angle of the bend. That way we could take it somewhere to get it done, if we have no friends with the right tools(like me).

the chrome plating will crack most likely. which is no big deal since it can't be seen where the bend is. if you're worried about it touch it up with some testors paint or rustoleum.
honestly I don't even need to bolt the plastic back together and glue/melt/epoxy or w/e the cuts back together, it feels fine and holds form when I push with full force. but then I wouldn't feel fine knowing the plastic is cut up under the foam. :blankface:

I just did this mod, following papasonic's photos.
I think it came out pretty good.
The only problem I had was trying to unclip the cloth on the bottom of the headrest.

I appreciate this mod every time I drive the Sonic. I'm glad I could share how I did mine. I did my Sonic first, then the wife said, "when are you going to do mine!" I had to do 4 headrests before I was done. A press makes short work of this project; the hard part is getting the darn cover off and on again. I used baby powder to assist the assembly and disassembly process.

Every "Body" is different. Seat might give the lumbar support/comfort in a position that conflicts with the default angle of the headrest. Personally I've never had an issue though.

Straightened out my headrest today! I took it to a machine shop but when they tried to put it in a metal press all it did was start to crush the pipe so they stopped. I got it home and put the plastic peice in a vice while the plastic was wrapped in a towel. Then took a long metal pipe and used that as a lever to straighten out the pipes. The head rest is so comfortable now. Im looking forward to my next long trip in the car!

A little off topic here, but does anyone know where I can get the Barina rear leather headrests that slide down a bit further to provide more rear visibility?

Every time I drive my Sonic, I appreciate the mod to the headrests. I removed the rear headrests early on for rear visibility; only installing if anticipating passengers. The actual press work is the easy part; getting the padded cover off and back on the headrest frame is a bear.
Or just keep the backseats down:banana:

US low profile head rest
But I'm seeing that number as the low profile in Canada but normal here in the US.
Then 95485056 as the low profile here in the US, $64 each at some places but I would check if it truly is available here. I found a pair from a breakers yard in FL so will update when they arrive. Else it's dremmel time
