Road Magnet in maryland is looking to use a new 2012 sonic turbo hatch or sedan to design springs for.
You will have to leave your car there for a week or so.
You will get a free set of springs for doing this.
i was going to do this ,but i'm only keeping one of my sonics because I'm getting a new focus st .

i'm a local customer who is trying to help one of you guys out and them with sales. I'm getting another car thats why I'm not doing it. They do this for all new cars that have a demand for springs. I don't think turbo model is requird but call them. they are a great company and nice on phone.

I could drop off my 1.4sedan as soon as saturday if they can do somethig that early... But i could only leave it for a MAX of a week or the wife would KILL me haha.. That is assuming they are still in need

so i got a response email from the guys at road magnet and they said that they would like to use my car to do their lowering springs. so im talking to my wife about it and she doesnt want me to do it for fear of warrenty issues seeing as how the car just hit 550 miles. any suggestions for ammo to try to get her to change her mind.?? anything will be helpful haha

The warranty except for the shocks would not be affected. I am unfamiliar with this company, but if they are willing to replace the shocks if something goes wrong with their springs installed, and if they are willing to return the OEMs at the end of the test if that is what you want, then I'd say go for it.

Be sure they do an alignment if you decide to stay with the OEM springs.

And last but not least, if you are thinking of keeping them, be sure to drive some miles to see if you like the results. I prefer the steadiness of a firm suspension, but not everyone does. In the old days I always opted for the heavy duty suspension; now the equivalent is known as the sport suspension.

thats what i thought with the warrenty. also the dealer usually sells lowering springs for some cars too so i dont see why it would void anything. as long as it is installed by a certified tech. but i guess that means GM certified tech i bet haha.

well upon closer inspection they say they will need my car for no less than one week and no more than two. thats a long time so i emailed them back saying i have to decline based on time. so somebody get this done so we can have more aftermarket parts.

I know I am going to offend somebody, but I can not accept this company is serious. Keep your car for TWO weeks. For what, to determine if their product will fit? Will work? Will not bounce you off the road into the ditch?

After thinking about this, it seems to me if they had a desire to keep a car for more than a day they would have a rental car for you to use. And I would be concerned about any promises along the line of repairing or replacing damaged shocks/springs, or of replacing the OEM and doing an alignment, or probably any other promise the company may be inclined to make.

But those are my thoughts. Contrary to my sometimes stated philosophy, in this case I am willing to be given facts, whether the facts confuse me or not.

The time it takes to get the product right based on whatever schedule they are working with on other projects and I would say it is perfectly reasonable. I'm sure they are not in business to just suit a lone Chevy Sonic model. You don't need "facts" to flesh out that scenario.

I contend if the company was serious it would take a more serious approach. Asking someone to give over the use of a new car, and lets face, the only North American assembled Sonics on the road that are a year old are captured test fleet vehicles refurbished for resale, and not provide alternative transportation marks diminished seriousness or diminished capital.

To be clear, I am in favor of as much after market product as possible coming to market for the Sonic. With competition because competition promotes improvements and affordability.

And fairness to the potential consumer.

I looked at their site and they do seem to use some very pretty colors. I admit I am partially color blind, so the colors may not be pretty at all. And I recognize it is important that automobile suspension parts such as lowering springs be available in a variety of colors, that way the exterior will have a more demanding presence as it motors its way down the road.

So...you're ignoring the need to properly test an aftermarket product before it's ready. This approach is VERY typical in the aftermarket area. This is nothing new at all. Basically, if you can afford to drop your car off to test new suspension go ahead, but if the Sonic is your primary means for transportation, then forget about even considering this.

No. I believe what he is saying is for a company most people haven't heard of, to ask a person to use their brand new car for over a week is asking a lot. If they were so serious about it they would drop their other projects and work on the sonic if they were really truly interested.

Ok... but really...aftermarket companies are usually small shops. It would be nonsense to think their name would be well known.

Since the company is in Baltimore and very local to me, it's very easy to check them out for credibility. For someone living in Detroit it's pretty pointless to call them out.

I understand that completely, if pedders or eibach would want to use my car or a week or 2 that's one thing but I wouldn't feel right with a company like that to use my car. But if you can do it more power to you

I probably went too extreme when I "called out" Hi Road Magnet" but I still maintain my intent, which was to provide a cautionary note.

I contend it is ok for someone who is not local to raise questions unless the company has no intention of selling its product in my local area.

And some of the after-market changes made to my Sonic were made to see if the change would work. I paid no less for things like the Seibon CF extractor hood or the Pedders lowering coils than an other customer but I believe I was one of the first, if not the first, retail consumers to install them on a Sonic. The fact that I am quite happy with the results does not mitigate my concerns before I got them. But both the hood and the coils have performed beyond expectations.
