hissing noise when A/C is on

That was my thought, but I wanted to hear it before I made wild assumptions.

i agree. its something the dealer should look into. its normal for the A/C to make a hissing noise when its turned off (its relieving vacuum pressure).
does your A/C blow cold?

i wouldnt be surprised if it was... but it is kind of annoying. you can hear it over the radio if your not cranking it.

I hear it too. Regarding whether or not the A/C blows cold, some days it kicks butt, others not so much. I tried to note whether it wasn't doing so well on some of the summer days where Chicago hit 100+ degrees, but it seemed that some days I noticed it wasn't so cold, the temp was "only" 90 or so.

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but anyone get a resolution to this?
I'm looking at a brand new 2014 RS on a nearby lot which seems to exhibit a hiss/whoosh noise under the following extremely reproduceable circumstances:
- AC is ON
- Fan is in #2 position
- Engine RPM is between 2500 - 3000
Seems to happen either on acceleration or deceleration, can't get it to sustain by holding a specific RPM. The noise is most prominent near the center vents above the touch screen.
I am considering buying this vehicle but the dealer would like to investigate AFTER the car is purchased, not before.
Ironically this is the 2nd RS I've looked at in the area, and the first one (an identical '13) has a nasty paint chip in the C pillar which the dealer also insists on taking care of AFTER a purchase is made.

Not sure if this is of help with the AC, but I also notice a hissing sound, rather like what you usually get with an AC system after cutting the engine when it resets the fluid in the system. It seems to cycle on the Sonic periodically. Not sure why, and it's annoying, but it seems to be remarkably effective at low power in terms of cooling air. The other thing it sometimes does is the sound of the clutch on the compressor is quite clear, which you do not hear at all on a same model year Cruze. I'd like to know if this is something to watch out for, an indication of something that's loose, a bad component, or simply part of the system. This in a 2014 Sonic and I understand there were changes across the GM lineup for 2014 for a new type of refrigerant that's less of an environmental hazard than even r134.
Alright so despite the hissing / sighing noise from the A/C, I've bought the aforementioned RS. Now I'd like to get it looked at in case what I'm hearing isn't normal and something can be done about it.
The air conditioning works perfectly fine, and the noise doesn't sound too troublesome, it's just a bit annoying. (to the point I turn off the A/C whenever possible so I don't have to hear it.) My previous car made a frequent sound like squeezing a mostly empty ketchup bottle when the A/C was on, too. So I'm kind of used to it.
It's less specific than I originally thought. Basically I hear it either when accelerating or decelerating while the A/C is on. It's a hiss or sigh sound that appears to come from the upper vents, usually between 2-3k RPM. Those are the only constants; A/C on, engine under load. Totally reproduceable on a drive, harder to reproduce while sitting still.
Did anyone ever get a resolution for anything like this?
