98svtCobra, not sure what you mean...the govt allows 600+ hp corvette and cadillacs to be sold, no problem...
I had the same frustration with the Ford Fiesta that I was planning to buy (until I found out about the Sonic). I looked up the British Ford website, they have like six different engine options available! Gas NA, gas turbo, diesel turbos! In the US the we just get the one engine 1.6L NA.

my X5 cost me about $600-800/month in gas, definitely not waiting till next year.. haha.
But if they do bring the diesel next year, then i'll give my daughter this Sonic a year earlier than i planned and i'll just buy another.

In all honesty, my first car was left to me when my dad passed. I got hit by a person who ran a red light and had no insurance.
I then proceeded to buy the same model car ($600) that had a good body on it and then swapped the engine and interior from my other car. I was only 16 and it took me awhile to pay my grandad back that money.
I was so pissed too. Because I was going to sell that car and get my brothers restored El Camino. I wanted that car SO BAD... and I never got it because of that bastard that hit me.

well, last year i dolled up this old jeep cherokee for her but she never got around to getting her drivers license and a friend of mine asked if they could buy it. So i went ahead and sold it.
So now i'm restoring a 87 honda crx for her, i've done a 1.6 swap and transplanted a 5 speed out of a Si in it. Now if she will ever get around to actually GETTING her drivers license, then i'd give it to her. But then again, with as little as she cares about getting her license, i might not have to worry about it.. haha
My first car was a 66 mustang with a 289 and 3 speed on the floor, i saved up and bought it from my neighbors. It had been sitting in a barn for my entire childhood, everything was dry rotted and stuck.. i had to go through and rebuild pretty much every freaking system on that car before it was drivable. I wish i had never let my now ex-wife pressure/nag me into selling it while we were married.

it just looks like a white 87 crx.. nothing special atm. especially with the front end tore off it. Mileage.. never really paid attention. The engine was out of a EX sedan that i think had about 200k on it but shucked a timing belt and had to be fixed. The transmission is out of a Si that had about 80k on it if i remember right. The body, i've no clue.. i picked it up for $200 because of a broke bell housing. The 1.5 that came with it is not much more than a paper weight due to bad head design.. low hp and chronic overheating.

Trav, I think you misunderstood me, they are supposed to make a CRUZE diesel, not the Sonic...

I really considered getting a diesel last year, but they just don't buy their way in for a small car anymore. Diesels are still king for trucks and towing.
The 2011 VW Golf TDI is rated at ONLY 30/42,

to meet the strict US emissions for diesel cars they just don't get great mileage anymore and you have to pay $1500-2000 more for the diesel option.

haha.. well, it didn't help that i had just seen this link a couple days ago. So the Sonic forum + sonic diesel on my brain = missing the word cruze.

"our New Aveo will be available in a diesel option". But yeah, I had seen that they were going with the diesel in europe, i was hoping you had seen something i hadn't about them bringing the diesel sonic here. haha.
But since its the cruze, if we have any luck it will have the same engine the europe version gets (which i seriously doubt). The european diesel cruze with a 6 speed manual is rated at 64.2 mpg extra-urban. So i threw that into a handy dandy online US to Imperial MPG calculator and it spit back 53.5 mpg. I doubt we'll get that lucky. But if they did drop that in our laps, i would buy it.

Wow! You do a lot of driving...
That's roughly 3000 miles per month, 36,000 miles per year. Plus you put 8000 miles on your bike in a year!

yeah... sadly thats about right. But its also very common where I live. You can easily put 50-100 miles on a car going out to eat or going to the movies if you go to Little Rock. Then run a few errands, and commute to work, 3k month is easy to do. So I try to keep extra vehicles around to spread out all my miles between and not dump to many miles on one car in a year.
Now my bike.. well.. yeah, i did put some miles on it this year.
But its just to much fun to ride.
