How many "older" people own a sonic?

After some debate with another moderator we have decided to unlock this thread.

This thread is specifically for older sonic drivers, say 50 and older.

Yeah, we get to keep the geezer thread going!

I'm 55 and was going to buy a Spark when they first came out. Once they arrived at the dealer my wife pointed out it was basically a Korean car. She convinced me to get the Sonic, and I have no regrets. Well maybe I should have waited a couple months and got a 2013 with MyLink. I get 40+ MPG and with a tune, this car is fun to drive.

I found it interesting that both of us bought our Sonics for very similar reasons. Of course, we only have one Sonic, but we do have a few more cars/trucks than you do and normally only drive our personal cars on weekends due to our jobs.

I remember when the 2004 GTO came out. One of the local Pontiac dealers called me up and asked me how he should option his 1 allocated GTO (he valued my opinion based on my 3 year frame off restoration of my '64 Convertible). When it came in - he called me again to take it out and drive it (Bermuda Blue 6 spd). I literally drove it right out of the showroom. My wife enjoyed driving it almost as much as I did.

I guess we have more in common than the Sonic: I also have a 2004 GTO, purchased new. It is Impulse Blue with blue leather interior and a 6 speed Tremec. It now has about 11,600 miles. See pictures in my garage link at left.

You have more than 5 vehicles? I'm glad to hear I'm not alone with this obsession. We have too many for just the two of us, but don't know what we should part with. I also have a Honda Goldwing. Licensing, insuring, and maintaining 6 vehicles is a challenge sometimes.
It appears that the only vehicles we drive are the Sonic's; there never seems to enough time or places to go to bring out the other stablemates.

I am 50... but when I bought the Sonic I was not, so I'm not sure I really qualify for this thread.

On the other hand, I really see very few young people in this car, almost always any driver I spot in one is haired and old enough to make me think they are old.

I got the car as an economical substitute for buying a new F150; instead I spent a less money on a car which would also be cheaper to run, and kept the aging pickup for hauling purposes, figuring it would see fewer miles so it would not cost as much to maintain despite its age.

I have been surprised to discover that I can use the Sonic for 95% of my cargo purposes, as well as all of my just driving around purposes; the F150 sees use much more rarely than I had assumed it would, primarily when I need full sheets of plywood and other really oversized and inconvenient items. I have even carried that sort of thing on a roof rack from time to time, but since I own the F150 it is more convenient to just use it when needed instead of working with the temporary rack.

I did not intend for the Sonic to be a hot rod, but it was so easy to mod, and so responsive to modding, that I accidentally fell into that as a new hobby.

50+ was just a guideline. I'm just curious to hear the stories of the so called "geezers." Thanks to the moderators for allowing this thread to continue. I meant no harm by starting a thread for older sonic owners. It's just that I see a lot of middle aged people driving a car more likely targeted at younger people and I find that very interesting. I'm sure chevy is resonably pleased.

As far as that goes, I have the trifecta tune, an MPFab intake, and I've done the bypass-bypass and hope to continue modding this car like a 22 ear old. This car is a hoot to drive.

I was 55 and my wife 53. It's the very first brand new car I've ever purchased!

I love it and would buy another. I'm hoping Chevy keeps Sonic in the lineup for a long time!

I'm 66 and wife is 64. We still have our first car that we ordered in Oct '68 shortly after getting married. 1969 Z28 RS that we still drive(87,600 miles). I just put an E-steet EFI system on it (yes I have all the original parts). We got the Sonic to drive on long trips, we're in Calf now. Also have 2012 z71 Suburban that gets 1/2 the mileage of the Sonic, but it does the heavy work for us.

well I'm in my 30's, does that count as Old? I'll be owning this car for about 6yrs. and I've JUST passed 30,000.00 Miles & I've only had the Car since June when it had about 28,202 miles. Not bad on my Part....not Bad.

I'm 55 and I decided a long time ago to refuse to grow old. Now that I am no longer married and my 4 kids (2 with Sonics) are all grown up, I can do whatever I want with my cars!! Glenn, I'm sorry we couldn't get together while you were here for SEMA. Maybe next time you pass through town.

49.5 almost 50 can I have six months grace period and jump in here. you guys seem to be more my speed.
had to sell my 2007.5 duramax diesel in the divorce and the wife took the econo car with her. so looking around I got a 2000 jeep Cherokee. nice to drive, fun too, but at 15 mpg I figured out real soon I can get a good econo car for what I spent on gas,. wanted to buy American, came across the sonic and did some research. I found a dealer that offers a lifetime warranty on the drivetrain for as long as I own it along with free car washes and oil changes for life. so I got my black 2013 sonic RS loaded with A/T. it also fits in the garage with my two bikes and other toys. Not doing any mods as I don't want to blow my warranty or put money into a car that essentially and I know this will make some of ya mad. a throw away car in most cases. But I have elevated it above throw away since its got the lifetime warranty. gonna drive it for the next 15 years till I retire and maybe even after that, see what kind of miles I can get out of it and how many engines and transmissions they have to put into it. sitting at around 25000 miles now. and that my friends is my story.
