Just dropped my K&N Filter in. This is the first change to the car but I've only had it for a week and a half. We'll see if I can tell the difference on my commute tomorrow.
Put my filter in and definitely noticed a bit more pep to the engine. Can't speak to any change in MPG as of yet but the little boost in HB is noticeable (always play with the engine in manual mode if you have an auto, it's where you'll get the most power).
Sure is a lot of 'well it FEELS like an improvement' posts in this thread.
Complete non-proof.
Until I see Dyno results, call me a complete skeptic. I'm sticking with my stock air filter/intake. I've seen enough damage done by the oil used in a K&N drop in filter to not want to risk it.
But you have more control over the power when it is in manual. Sorry for not being clear on that.
I have used K&N filters on my custom Jeeps for 20+ years. Increased air flow (regardless of how much) has an effect on the amount of resistance that exists in the engine. I am in no way saying that a drop in has given me a new engine, but it has increased the "pep" of the engine when accelerating.
Has anyone done any "metrics" on this? How about mpg?
I expect/fear any initial improvement would be "corrected" by the car's computer thingy.
I suppose to see how much change a very unrestricted intake would make I could remove the filter. Probably not a good idea on a dusty day.
