Hows the sound?

This is the BOSS Audio BASS1200. They now make a BASS1500 which looks very similar. It's designed to work as an under seat subwoofer. I have used them in my various subaru's for years with excellent results.

It doesn't appear it will fit under the seat of a sonic without protruding well into the rear footwell but it would easily fit under the rear cargo tray.

I realize haters gotta hate but before you knock this inexpensive subwoofer, I would suggest you have a listen for yourself. It allowed me to lower the bass settings on my head unit allowing me to play music louder and clearer and providing an excellent amount of thump for the money. You can buy one for about $130 shipped from Amazon or ebay.

Excuse the dust, I pulled it straight out of my subaru where it's hidden under the seat.

And a less dusty shot in the middle. Some velcro and some quick disconnects and it could be removed in seconds.

Can't you see from the pic???? it's WIRELESS... lol j/k The wires are still in my subaru. I haven't installed it in the sonic yet. I just pulled it for a test fitting.

Yea, sorry. does it look like you could fit 2 back there? and what size amp do u need to it? and does the stock head unit on the sonics have a adapter for a sub or do u have to splice and all that ****?

I have a Pioneer TS-WX50 spare tire sub new in the box, when I get my Sonic will test fit it and let you guys know. Google it if you want to know more about it, they were made by Pioneer for a time, and designed to slip right into the empty space of an upside down spare tire. They show up on ebay from time to time, and the TS-WX50A is self amplified.

These self contained or minimal install required subs seem like a perfect option for those who don't need a "shake your fillings loose" type of system. Let us know how they wind up sounding in a Sonic.

You could fit three of these things under the package shelf. The amp is internal to the box. They sell a wiring kit and the instructions are pretty simple. It features RCA and speaker level inputs as well as a remote bass volume control. I think the simplist solution would be to use the speaker level inputs on the BASS1200 and tap into the rear speaker wires at the wiring harness. It's on the drivers side kick panel in the Cruze. I'm guessing the Sonic would be similar.

After reading the forums, I was prepared for poor sound before I bought my car, "six speaker premium stereo" not withstanding. And it did stink...muddy on XM or FM no matter how i adjusted the EQ or tone settings. I did read however a post where a member had commented on how much better the audio sounded through the CD or AUX inputs...and that fellow is 100% correct. After fiddling around playing through my iphone I selected a few songs on my PC, bumped up the levels with Audacity, burned it to a platter and WOW, even better! No distortion. Still plan on buying a low profile powered sub, but the difference is remarkable, It pained me to listen to it before...

^that was me, I think we are simply accustomed to listening to the quality jump of our headphones on ipods and such that we forgot what FM is like...some stations better than others.

Whats behind the plastic panels in your hatch areas? seems to be that would be a great place to look for mounting amps and/or shallow mount subs. Not to gripe on a DIY if it was, but I would not pay a professional much to mount a sub in a hatch attached to plywood like that. My sedan has cavities (carpeted) on either side of the trunk which could accommodate subs if I was inclined.

Also any head unit, can be hooked up, to any amp, so there's really no reason to replace the head-unit.

For HD radio, I could have sworn I saw some portable units so the AUX in with a 12 volt adapter could solve that issue.

Well, XM in particular over the years the quality on most of the channels I listened to have become.... well unlistenable heh. Like some of the talk shows I listen to it sounds like a mp3 from 1997 in mono. Even some of the music channels are really bad. Muddy, artifacts/pops etc. I told XM that too when I told them I didn't want to continue the trial subscription.

I think they're just trying to shove way too much content down with the bandwidth they have available from the satellites. I'm told if you live in a "major market" that has terrestial repeaters, its a lot better. Obviously out here in CornLand they don't have those.

i would but i logically cant explain how mine works with my limited knowledge of how electricity works lol. what i do know is if you hook up the wiring harness as the directions state and get a amp wiring kit lie one you can get at wal-mart with the power wire, fuse and stuff you should have the remaining parts to do the rest, pretty simple.

also in case nobody knows, the color combo for the speakers are as such stock.

tweeters: driver= blue, brown/blue...passenger=yellow, yellow/black
front: driver= blue, brown/blue...passenger=yellow, yellow/black
back: driver=green, green/black...passenger=white, blue/black

yup thats right the tweeters are the same as the front speaker colors so now you know, and knowing is half the battle.

i dont know if anyone checked but there is no wires in the rear if you dont get speakers according to gm.
