HUGE tranny buck/kick today - AND no accel on start up

1.4L auto trans. 11k miles. Pulled out of work today and had to put the pedal down to get into traffic. About a second into it the car literally had NO movement for about a whole half second. Almost like it stalled out.

Eighth of a mile up the road I kicked it into the geartronic and downshifted for some accelleration - enormous transmission kick- felt throughout vehicle.

The cars been having some rough/untimely shifting over the past 3 weeks. Would love some advice and know if anyone else has experienced this! Thanks!!

Check for codes and if it's easily reproducible bring it in for service.

You're signature doesn't say you're tuned but if you are go back to stock first and see if that solves the problem. If it does fix the problem contact Trifecta.

I had something like this happen to me a little while back (1.8 MT though). Had the pedal to the floor and it didn't respond for a second or two. Hasn't happened since though.

No tune. The tranny kick was what worried me. I guess the best thing is to take it for a scan like mentioned - thanks! I saw all kinds of crap on a lemon law website ... Kinda like googling headache and webMD telling you you're gonna die.

Just not liking the huge kick- felt like it did some damage, and if the power loss was another second longer I'd be talking about side impact crash ratings...

I've experienced the stability control intervening when going over some decent pot holes and that is what it felt like, you have your foot to the floor and nothing's going on. Do you think there may have been something in the road you ran over? Or possibly whatever happened with the transmission jolted the car enough to cause stability control to engage.

Edit: I re-read the OP and the transmission kick and no acceleration sound like they were two separate events.

They were 2 separate events- tool place within about 5 seconds of one another. I did, in my state of "oh $h@&" see the stability control light kick on when I glanced at the RPMs now that u mention that. The funny thing is I felt no slipping whatsoever and the car was already going about 5mph when I straightened more and had to turn it up. That's a long amount of time to delay both wheels!

Traction control takes over the instant it feels wheel spin and acts much like you are describing; light goes on, power drops to about 20 hp, and stays down for several seconds. Stability control is similar but has something to do with skidding, I think what it really looks for is different wheels spinning at different rates or something.

They are both very irritating and can, as you describe, put you in real risk of getting slammed when you knew you had plenty of room if you gunned the car, only to have it limp and leave you astride a road with oncoming traffic, unable to get out of your own way fast enough because of the "safety" mechanism.

In a manual this can be turned off by tapping the TC button (TC) holding down the TC button several seconds (SC and TC) and finally by pulling the ABS fuse (TC, SC, ABS... and no more pushing the button but irritating lights on dash) I don't know about auto since I don't have one but I bet it's the same thing.

With E85 red pill, TC off is practically a necessity as it is far too easy to put more power to the wheels than grip will allow, simple enough to ease up slightly and let them catch again, but not simple to ride out the several seconds of Limp every time you try to pull out.

Whether this is wise is left to your own judgement, weighing the risks of uncontrolled spin or skid or braking versus the risks of Limp Mode and Jackhammer Stop.

Smith I think I've asked this before but I can't remember.
Yesterday I took off from an intersection and the road was wet and I spun a tire pretty good before I finally let up on it some. It confused me because I swear the traction control should have noticed it and yet nothing?

I also noticed in the snow I could spin my tires quite a bit with absolutely no effect. Is this normal or did I somehow luckily get a car with broken traction control? ABS works fine but I don't know if I've ever seen the traction control do anything on this Sonic.

Yeah, if you want Traction Control then you need to get that looked at, because it normally kicks in at the slightest hint of spin. On the other hand, if you've stumbled onto some way to get it to turn off and stay off, and only kick in after several seconds of spin, there are lots of us out here who would love to clone whatever you did. Your car is broken just the way I would break mine if I could!

Hmm, no, maybe not, I would also like it to shut back off a split second after kicking in, instead of several seconds once it does. But you're a lot closer than I am.

^^That's odd..
When I take off, I have to reeeeeally feather the clutch to stop it from chirping the tires.. and of course, the moment one tire lets go, TC starts flashing and i have to let off the gas entirely for like 2 seconds just to get it to stop freaking out.

I have 1.4t with mt and bucked after shifting into 3rd at high rpm. Next day 3rd gear was almost completely lost. (pops self out of gear upon accel) Brought it in last Friday getting a new transmission Monday.

You may want to check on preloaders m32 thread I think he found a place that beefs up the shift forks to prevent that in the future.
