I've had 4 different intakes on my Sonic and each was progressively better. The first one was a modified stock box with a K&N drop in filter.
Next I installed a ZZP intake.
After a few months I got a K&N intake. I painted it myself!
And now I have worked my way up to the top. I now have a MPFab intake.

If you're going for sound and not performance then the ZZP was the loudest since there wasn't a heat shield to muffle the noise.

Not unless the Cai was directly responsible for the damage.
If you install it wrong and you bust your a/c lines, that's not covered etc.
If you install it fine and your exhaust cracks, that wouldn't be the fault of your cai etc.

I'd think you'd get the BOV hiss sound if you get any aftermarket CAI's. I'd probably stick with stock box if you don't want that sound.

just bought the mfab cai, and I must say I was very impressed with their customer service. I forgot to put what color I wanted the piping as I chose powder coating, they called me back within 24 to ask what I wanted, then they called a week later saying everything is done except the powder coat on the heat shield, and gave me the option to get it sooner and save some money or wait. love that.

K&N mass produces everything and all their HP "gains" are not tested true. They dyno one or two cars and figure out motors with similar displacements will have similar gains and advertise that number, regardless of what they have or have not tested. For example, a Civic 1.8L from the early 90s put out 110hp, and a Sonic 1.8L ponys up with 138hp. Dropping a panel filter or a giant cone is going to be similar between the two motors but IAT, bends/restrictions in the hose, the micron rating of the filter vs airflow will have an effect, so it wont be 9-14bhp each. With K&N you pay more for the name than anything.
MpFab is meticulous and actually tries and tests their products and put everything on a dyno to see how it reacts with everything else. They post the dyno sheet, before and after, to show the real gains, not estimated.
Also, their customer service is fan-friggen-tastic.

Just like minitrucking02 says!! Don't get me wrong, I've used K&N since the 80's and haven't had a problem but I have grown to trust the results from MPFab more.
