Ive looked into this, Thought about replacing the internals with something fancy, Wiesco forged crank/rods with alloy pistons, Some custom ground cams. Maybe get a couple hundred more RPM out of the motor. Make about 20 or 30 more horsepower. It wouldn't hurt reliability much. But you would Spend about 5000$ just on parts and you probably wouldn't want to install it yourself. So yea, probably not worth it. Also, its a Sonic...No double the Ecotec is a stout little motor, but if your not racing it why bother? If I can get 150/160 HP from bolt-ons and not compromise the trans/engine I would be happy. (A Fieta ST and Fiat 500 Abarth all make around 160hp anyway, so your right in the mix of hot sub-compact territory) But it would be very cool if you had the money to toss around.

LNF and a trans swap would be the most efficient way to get more power.

Haha, gotta start somewhere. ;P And most likely Air Force. I'm leaning more towards medical side, for Psychology, i just want to get in and get the special assignment to go to school full time to complete my Masters, and just owe the US military back. That way school is paid for, and i know i won't be touched, because i'll be placed in a hospital. Thats the farthest i've got on info. Any more you could give me?

im enlisted in the army man I cant give u much on air force, ill tell u this much, military is hard to get into and hard to stay in, but if u can get it, bust ass n stay in its an honor and a pleasure to serve, I love it! just don't quit

From personal experience, the air force is not hard to stay in, just hard to get in. Well not really...

Pistons will be easy if you deal with a decent company. Wiseco is not on my list. I do not know the limits of stock rods, however per GM information that are forged to begin with. Gm also has a habbit of building strong cranks as well. For instance the stock crank in a LD9 has been shown to hold up just fine to 500+ WHP. For the kind of power level that I see most of us trying for I suspect the stock crank will be just fine with a proper balancing. Head work and cam shafts will the big issue. I am sure that one of the regrind companies out there will be willing to help us out. Next issue will be valvetrain. Retainers will not be an issue for me as I will just have some made out of titanium (not the first time I have had this done). Iam sure that by now some company has produced stainless valves for this engine as its been around for something like a decade. Chances are that a suitable valve spring also exists.

As the time gets closer for me I will be picking up a spare 1.8 to pull apart and use for having parts made.

I can tell u this much man, u can pick up PLENTY off a top end kit, cams n head work youll be sittin pretty.. idk about on a 4 banger but I know on s SBC u can pick up 50-100 hp off a top end kit, I am sure this 4 banger would do at least 30-... sounds like GM gave us a good platform to start with anyways
