Lashway custom CAI for Sonic Turbo - Version 1.0

I'd like to see something produced that actually requires a tune to run; the Trifecta tune (and, I hear, other tunes as well) is such a boost to the 1.4 that it ought to be a required first step anyway, so an intake that needs an upgraded tune isn't really $600 extra. Vince has been very good about updating the tune for small changes, or charging only a nominal fee (what is it, $50?) for big changes.

The ZZP was designed to need a tune, and then a plate was installed in it so it didn't require a tune. The plate is easily removed.

You don't really require a tune with an intake.... what happens is the computer which is trying to make some demanded torque, will allow the turbo to not work as hard to meet the torque demand. So if you had the world's greatest intake and you could meet the demand with 15 psi instead of 16 psi you'll run 15 psi but keep the same power level. With a tune you can bump the demand such that 16 is made again. This is what I gather, though. Could be completely wrong. Until I get a guinea pig I won't know much until my sonic is built.

So yeah, the intake will still give you a benefit in the form of less turbo work, cooler air, and having an awesome metal pipe with filter!

No, some intakes require a tune. They allow too much air, or the wrong flow of air for the MAF, and your car runs like **** and will pop a CEL.

Also, unless the intake is piped into the fender out of the engine bay you actually do not get cooler air and when you get your car, drive it for 20 minutes with that cool metal pipe and see how long you can hold your hand on it.....

Hi Dave, were developing a better heat shield right now. It's a slow process because we have to borrow a 1.4 from a local guy who daily drives his!!
