I rarely drive my Sonic on the highway but on a recent highway trip I noticed the steering feels slightly loose at around 65 mph. What I mean is there's a minuscule amount of play when the steering wheel is centered going down the highway. Is this normal because of the electric steering? Or maybe I have a suspension issue?

sloppy steering
300 mileson my sonic drives like crap.On the highway I can't drive in a straight line without turning the steering wheel a half inch to the right and left constantly to keep itin a straight line. Feels like sloppy steering box. Now if its windy I'm really in trouble. No wind at all and I'm constantly adjusting the steering wheel to keep it straight. Took it off the road and now driving my 1996 Nissan maxima that has 400 thousand on it and drives straight with no constant turning of the steering wheel. Sonic is going in the shop and I bet they tell me there is nothing wrong with it. I bought 2 of them one for wife and me . Hers drivers fine. Mine is all over the highway. So I'm not taking that for a answer. Mine is the LS wife has RS

I had this rouble as well. I figured it was the electronic steering feel. After I changed the stock tire out this problem went away.

Yeah it will feel more planted on the highway with larger wheels and wider tires

My Sonic's steering is firm, crisp, and responsive at all speeds, as were the three I test drove over the couple months leading up to purchase. Testing something in the "highway turbulence" thread, I even did a half mile or so behind a semi with my hands hovering a quarter inch off the wheel.
If you aren't getting these results, your tires may be at fault, steering did improve with my aftermarkets (and that's what the turbulence test was with) but more likely, you have an actual problem that needs to be addressed.... I did several thousand miles with the stock tires, and those other Sonics I test drove also naturally had stockers, no complaints.

Hmm, my GF and I adjust the steering wheel position all the time, in part because she and I like different position for driving, and in part because, well anyway we just do. Haven't found some mystery position in which the steering goes all to hades.
I think my issue is maybe the same as the "float" others have experienced plus I'm coming from a Genesis Coupe which had a pretty weighted steering feel. I added the belly pan which I hope should help some. I think IF you could get the RS steering calibration plus aftermarket wheels (wider) and a good alignment, it would be fine on the highway.

Ah, not as a result of moving it around, but rather a problem with it in one specific position.
I can't say either of us have ever driven the car with the steering wheel all the way up; we put it back into a drivable position once it is no longer in the way.
