I took a hairdryer (very high powered, mind you) and heating the letters, two at a time, and ran dental floss between the letters and body. Make sure to pull towards you so you don't scratch the paint. Once the letters are off, the adhesive will still be on there. I used Goo Gone and microfiber towels to remove it. It took me about 2 hours total because I was being sure to be very careful and not scratch anything.

The headunit I bought was a Jensen VM9224BT that I got off Amazon for about $220

The dash kit is a Metra 99-3012G, about $190
Metra 99-3012G 2012 Chevy Sonic Single and Double Din Installation Kit

And everyone make sure, you MUST buy this adapter for the radio; $10:
Metra 40-EU55 (met-40eu55) Antenna Adapter Cable for Select 2002-

Total was less than $450 after shipping/tax.

Like I said you, you MUST have that adapter. I didn't realize it, and will have to take the headunit back out again to install mine... Until then, I have to use iPod/CD/USB, which isn't too big of a deal.

You have to think about what it comes with.
It's a whole new bezel, plus the SWC and OnStar modules. Those modules for other vehicles could easily be $100 by themselves.

Well hell, I was looking into replacing my stereo (bass head here) but damn that's some cash for a dash kit when I wont be needing the onstar service after it expires or the xm radio once it expires, I just want my iPhone, aux, and cd, and of course my subs, speakers and amps!

Oh, and one more question sorry...Do you lose the basic car configuration settings that the stock head unit has? Or does the adapter/dash kit somehow recover those? Just curious, I don't want to lose any funcitonality if I replace mine. Thanks for the help, looks great btw! I've been following this thread since before I got my sonic this past weekend haha

That headunit is GPS ready, but doesn't come with it. I think it was an extra $100 for the GPS module.

It took about an hour or two so I guess, didn't really pay attention to that.

You don't "lose" them, but you will lose access to them. There is a separate module you can buy to retain access to those settings, otherwise you would have to hook the old radio up to set them. Just remember to set them however you need them before changing radios and you'll be fine.

ALSO:

To anyone with the connectivity package, meaning you have USB and Aux in your top glove box, you CAN keep those.

For USB:
There will be a male Mini USB plug that plugs into the stock radio.
You will need:
- A new headunit that has a REAR usb port.
- This plug: http://www.amazon.com/USB-Male-Mini...1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1338414142&sr=1-1
Simply plug the Mini USB into that, and then that into the new headunit, and you have retained your glove box USB port.

For AUX:
The dash kit comes prewire with the RCA's to keep that, so if your radio has a REAR auxiliary in (using RCA) just plug it up and it works)
If your new radio has a 3.5mm AUX in on the rear, you will need one of these:

Here's the module. It is advertised as iPod control, but it is the right thing.
Axxess XIA-LCD (xialcd) LCD Repeater Display/Remote for Axxess

There is a plug that looks similar to an S-Video plug, on the side of the module included in the dash kit. You just plug it in there and go, from what I understand.

As for the headunit, I love it. Video quality looks great, which surprises me, being such a cheap unit.

Just got a double din installed on tuesday, my dash kit Came with the antenna adapter. Perhaps you got shorted on yours? I would look into it if I were you.

Interesting. Did you order the kit yourself, or did whoever installed it order for you?

Mine specifically says I need to order it separately, I just didn't read it.

It's been a while, but finally there's an update. It's small but whatever.

Finally got around to plastidipping my front emblem.

Tint soon, with rims to follow. Still tossing a few rim ideas around before I make a jump for a set.
