what surprises me is that my MAF sensor got dirty after only 20k miles and four years

Just left my 2013 Chevrolet Sonic at the shop due to rough idling, high revving when parked, too rich fuel codes, check engine light and random reaction control light turn ons. Just got a call from dealership Clark Chevrolet in McAllen, Texas and what do you know! I have a cracked air flow tuning causing my engine to suck in too much air creating all these problems.

Wonder if you could use the stuff we use in electrical work for creating loose connections to motors in hazardous areas for the intake.

We call it seal-tight. It's metal banded flex hose within a rubber housing. Watertight, rigid, and flexible. Comes in 3/8", 1/2", and 1" sizes.

It is available at least to 4" . Do not know how it would work ?

What about the appropriate combination of PVC pipe & PVC fittings ? That would be a form of hard piping .

No, dont use PVC for an intake. For the 1.4T, you can "hard pipe the SAB" for like $40-50. Just need a 45* 3" metal tube and 2 silicon connectors. There's a how to with an actual parts list on here. For the 1.8, I imagine you could hard pipe it as well, just would need a slightly different parts list.
