MPFab Intercooler Upgrade

So I got a 1.4L turbo sonic and plan to start doing some mods…
zzp air intake
trifecta tune
and possibly a mpfab intercooler

I was wondering if anyone has done this upgrade and if so how did the car perform?

Welcome to the forum! That sounds like a good starting list of power mods.

You may or may not have noticed, but MPFab is a supporting vendor here, and Walker is really attentive and active on the forum. I don't have any of his products (yet!) but impressions around the site are really positive and he's pretty meticulous about testing all of his products.

Can't speak for the intercooler, but I have his intake and it seems to be top notch. Also had a few questions and he was very easy and informative to talk to. Excellent customer service. I recommend anything from him.

I have the intercooler, but can't speak to its performance yet: I installed it when it was cold and it still hasn't warmed up yet.

I may be a bit biased....but without a doubt, it makes the most power of any upgrade we sell by a large margin. If you'll notice on the graph posted on the website, the testing was done in August...in Alabama. If you're not familiar with how hot/muggy it gets here in August, I'll sum it up in two words...as balls!

I may have found a solution for those who are looking to buy this kit if you have an automatic but the at this point its really only a theory as I have no actual way to test it out.
I would need to get my hands on a silicone charge tube kit from DDMworks and I would need to buy the intercooler kit from MPFab to see if I can get pipe fitment for where the transmission is sitting. I'll be putting on my to do list once summer hits for when I'll have access to a lift and the funds required.

I installed it during the cold months here, but I do notice a performance gain and I can already tell it does help with heat soak. I would reccomend this kit to anyone looking for more performance.

I've installed the kit on my auto, I purchased a 2.25" 45 degree coupler, and a 60 degree coupler with clamps. You have to cut the IAT2 tube on each side of the weld in the middle, so that you end up with two pieces. Use the 60 degree to connect the first charge tube from the cold side of the intercooler to the IAT2 piece, then the 45 degree to connect to the tube that connects to the throttle body.

You basically need to make what is originally the third tube in the system run out in front and over the transmission.

The power is there for sure, accross the entire powerband. If you are looking for power, make sure you look into porting your intake manifold, and mpfabs write up on bypassing the bypass valve.

In my opinion, the mpfab intercooler kit is a must have for high performance in a sonic.
If you are looking for power the mpfab kit will make it at every level. From just an intake, to turbo back exhaust and a tune, this kit improves the system from turbo to throttle body. The factory intercooler is designed to support stock power, and ddm works has proven that even at stock power levels it will heat soak (hence the ddm intercooler diverter). The mpfab intercooler is above and beyond top quality, and the hard charge tubes not only decrease lag, and reduce pressure drop (from soft charge tube swelling under pressure ) but they also free up half an inch of diameter from cold side to throttle body (Factory Iat2 housing is 1.5" ID, mpfab has made it 2"ID).

You should not need a tune for any product I sell for the Sonic. That being said, a tune will definitely help to get the most out of any modification, regardless of who makes it.

Don't think so and I don't think you'll need it anyhow with the mpfab intercooler.
