Thought about 3D printing, but can you imaging the cost of a part 30" x 9" roughly? You'd probably be looking around $750+ for just the lower. We get SLA's (similar to 3D printing) all the time, an object the size of your mouse could easily cost $300+.

If you couldn't tell by now, I've looked into how to produce these as efficient and cost effective as possible.

My guess would be in the 200-400 range. They would all be 6061 aluminum, TIG welded in a fixture. Anodizing or Powder-coating is an option. You thinking the straight billet or the Type 2? The Billet could be laser cut, the Type 2 would need to be machined. Once I get the prototype done, I can get much more accurate numbers for you Eric. My guess is the ABS grilles would run roughly 100-300, again depending on the design.

why do you think bums collect cans? I'm guessing a couple grand just for the stock. Probably another 2-3k to machine it. If someone wants one, we can do it!

As a machinist I am very interested in what you do.

What brand of CNC did you get?

You are correct. I have no $100K tooling to injection mold these so they will be machined and built to the order. The first proto will be the standard billet type purely due to how simple the stips are. As soon as I get it built and test the fitment, I can knock out the other style within a week.

These first runs will all be out of ABS but if anyone has interest in getting an aluminum version made, it can be arranged.

I think I would prefer the plastic as I would just have to have the aluminum powder coated.

if you could get me the specs I can see what it will cost to to have it injection molded, I work for a roto form company but we deal with a ton of blow/injection molding companies and its worth finding out. I will contact them on monday/tuesday this week and see what that route would cost.
