No back speakers in base model

You have to remove the lower bpillar panel. It doesnt run into the door.

Ok, I finally got all the wires hooked up. Yes I have the same 3 pins but the 3rd one in is already occupied in the harness that goes to the door, so only the last 2 are for the speaker. The rear left behind the driver side speaker, positive wire should be "Green" & Negative should be "Green/Black". The rear right behind the passenger side speaker, positive should be "White" & Negative should be "Blue/Black".

The way I hooked them up is I used some pin connectors I had laying around from a Honda harness and put the in the corresponding pin slots so it looks like its still from the factory. Only thing is I'm going to have to use my alpine type-r brackets since there isn't any on the LS model and I would need to drill holes so I can mount them because there isn't any holes made from factory.

I'm still lost on whether or not the factory rear speakers have tweeters.

I'm assuming no as it wouldn't make sense. I thought the rear door speakers were essentially just rear fill and didn't do much intentionally.

Are you using the stock radio? Keep us updated. I'm really curious if the stock radio is already wired for rear speakers, and if the Fade menu option will appear after installing the back speakers! I get my speakers installed on Monday, and I'm not replacing the deck, but if anyone does theirs before then, and they're keeping the original deck, I'd really like to hear how it went!

Oh, I did hook up one speaker and it works but there is no fade option with the stock radio. I also went to the dealer and see if they would sell the bracket to mount the speakers back there but it's one whole unit with the speaker. Both sides of our rear speakers comes out to $52 including tax here in Canada. As well all LT and LTZ use the same rear speakers, that's why I opted for the 4 speakers because I was eventually going to replace them either way.

Okay, hang on...I bought a set of Alpine speakers without the grill (because I assume the grill molded onto the door cover is sufficient?). Do I need anything else to mount the speakers?

I got the LS model that didn't come with the rear speakers, so there is nothing back there, not even holes except one square hole.

The LS is the one I have as well. I wonder if I'm going to need to buy extra parts for the installer to finish???

Ah gotcha. Yea you may need a spacer. Alpines come with a bracket you can use for the rears.

On a side note I didnt use brackets or spacers for the rear. I only needed them for the front.

The installer who's doing my car said they will make an MDF housing to mount the speaker on to. They said there's basically two screws opposite each other (I think) that they can frame the MDF to.

I still can't believe they consider a 4 speaker system two low/mid range speakers in the front doors and two tweeters on either side of the windshield.

Are they charging you extra for that? Seems like alot of extra work.

They said as long as they don't need a lot of MDF, they won't need to charge extra. From what I understand, it's basically going to be a square of MDF with a round hole cut into it. What would you do? Is there a more efficient way? (Keep in mind, they haven't yet actually looked inside the door. This is just based on what I've told them from what I've learned here.)

I mean thats not a bad way to do it if they arent charging you extra. I used the brackets from alpine speakers on my car.

Ok I have both sides on now, and I'll tell you right now that you won't hear your rear speakers, maybe if you sit back there. I have the stock head unit for now and I can't here them, I'm waiting to install my 4 channel amp and possibly a clean sweeper using the stock head unit.

I actually went to the scrap yard and looked at several GM vehicles for 6.5 speakers and use them for the rear doors. I found that an 08 impala had the same style and fit in my sonic without drilling holes or anything. I had to modify it like cutting out the whole speaker and shaving some material off the top and putting on my alpine brackets on top of it. Worked exactly but I did have to trim the inside of the door panel flush right up to the honey comb part. I took pictures on my iPhone and ill try to post the pics when I get some time.

Sonic007, I have a new amp in the box that's about 8 years old. Lol I just need to know if this Sony explod XM 4060-GTX amp will work for the alpine type-r's for all 4 speakers, or is this amp to out dated? Lol
