38lbs is for improved mpg and for no other reason.

I will stop now because thinking about OnStar is making my face feel flush and probably raising my blood pressure.

But in this situation OnStar is merely re-stating the specifications posted on the door jamb sticker in regard to the recommended tire pressures, and displaying that information on the RemoteLink smartphone app, and or your e-mail diagnostic report. The correct tire pressure for any vehicle is a controversial subject at best, and is a compromise of numerous factors.

I agree, the higher end GM vehicles do have the individual pressures displayed in the DIC. My Silverado and Equinox both have that feature.

Question. So I got new tires @ discount, my tpms light eventually turned off. Now, I had to go back and get another pair of new ones put on (sold me wrong ones long story). Anywayssss, it's on again, the guy ran around the car resetting the thing and having it beep and light up each light. Still on. Does it turn off eventually?

First make sure that the tire pressure is adjusted to the specification shown on the door jamb sticker; they may not be inflated to the correct pressure to extinguish the warning light. All that the re-learn tool does is identify which position the wheel is installed on the vehicle; it doesn't turn off or reset the warning light. Some tire installers put 32 psi in all the tires that they install, just because that is sufficient to get the vehicle out the door. I noticed that you have a LT model and now have 17" wheels on it. The recommended pressure for these tires will probably be less than the OEM tire pressure spec.
If the spec is 38 psi and there is 3 or 4 psi less than that in the tires the light will never go off.
Manually check the pressures with a quality/accurate gauge, adjust to the proper pressure, and then see if the warning light will extinguish.

Best Aftermarket Tire Pressure Sensors?

I am planning to buy a set of 15" wheels for my 2013 5-door.
If I decide to purchase a set of pressure sensors without buying them in a package,like Discount Tire Direct,for example,what are the best brands to look at? Where are the best places to look?

Why not just let who evers going to put tires on your car put the sensors in?

Ok, I read a few pages on this thread but not all of them and couldn't find the answer.

I got 16" LT rims and I'm putting on summer tires on them since I have a set of winters on 15" steel rims. Now here is my question, the 16" rims have TPMS sensors on them and I was wondering if I can use them on my Sonic even though my car didn't come with them. Do I need to reprogram something to make them work? My Onstar is not working since I replaced my car stereo head unit. Also, if I am able to get it to work on my car, does that mean I would need to install TPMS on my 15" steelies as well when next winter comes?

If I can't make them work, I think I'll give these away to someone in need of them.

Every sensor has it's own unique ID number. Your 4 original sensors are already programmed to the cars computer.

If you get new sensors you'll have to get the IDs programmed to the computer.

The computer can only have 4 different IDs programmed at once, since they are only 4 tires.

If you want to go back to your 4 original sensors, you'll have to get those programmed back since the IDs are different.

I hope this isn't confusing.

Ok I understand what you meant and thanks for the reply. But my car is the LS model and never came from GM with TPMS on my steel rims. So I would need to take them in to the dealer to make them work?

Man all these electronic stuff on cars these days are killing me. Lol

Seems strange so many want to disable TPMS and there is a version that rolls of the assembly line w/o it.

I have a question, the guys asked me at the shop if i wanted my old tpms sensors installed and i said yes, so my question is the low tire light is on in my car does that mean they forgot to reprogram it or do i genuinely need to air my tires up?
