Oil filter availability and price.

I did my first oil change at 1325 miles last Saturday to get the break in oil out and good full synthetic in. I ordered the oil filters from Rockauto.com ahead of time, PF2257G. It wasn't until the oil was drained and I broke out the new filter that I realized they sent me PF2257 filters without the G. Big difference. They made good on it and sent me the right ones right away, but that didn't help me at the time. I jumped in my truck and found a Wix locally, everyone one else had cheap Fram and STP crap for over $10, the Wix was around $13. I got the PF2257G filters for under $5 each from Rockauto. Ordered 4 and it was $25 with shipping. Much better than paying over $10 for cheap Fram crap. If you go this route just make sure send the PF2257G. It appears that there is no AC Delco retail version of our filter yet, they sent me bulk, which is fine.

I found the PF2257G filters at our local Blains Farm & Fleet store: Cost was $7.49. Occasionally they offer a 10% discount on AC Delco branded filters.

The AC/Delco 2257G oil filter is also readily available from Amazon for $6.89. I stocked up on half a dozen of them a few months ago.

Local retailers here were asking over $12 for this same filter !

Yes, it is something that they charge more $4 for a filter without the metal can.

Yes, RockAuto is the bomb.

2 oil changes in 8k miles and the filters and oil come out looking metal free.

I will never use the stp filter again. At 5k miles it was junk, it fell apart in my hands. I will use the oem filter any day if the week

FYI i used to work for fram where these filters are made. theyre all bullcrap and literally not worth 25 cents. those plastic endplates are simply flash melted by natural gas burners for a few seconds and slapped against the media. 9 times out of 10 they dont melt and allow bypass. the way we checked them for quality was by ripping the endplate from the media and look at the grooves left on the plastic from them being fused together. BTW the media (at this particular place) is nothing more than fiberglass laden paper. im not keen on having bits of fiberglass floating around in my oil.

I wouldn't put FRAM on my lawnmower. I got some Royal Purple and a Wix filter, going to do the 2nd oil change this weekend.

WIX andDelco are the exact same filter. WIX is $10 at Murrays and Delco is $6 at the dealer. Guess where I buy my filter from.

I get mine from Oriley's auto as well as my oil and almost any parts that I can find there and I want. I have a couple buddies who give me their discount and it's dirt cheap. I paid $25 for that oil and my filter combined. That's about half off regular price.

Amazon currently wants over $8 for the AC Delco filter. I just bought two on eBay for $6.72 each with free shipping. The seller shipped quick.

I went with RockAuto. $4.41+shipping. Shipping was $8.64 for 4 oil filters and 2 cabin air filters, so about $1.44 for each part. I think the shipping took 2 days. Not too bad.

No problem. There's a bunch of cabin filters to choose from. This particular one is a carbon element filter as opposed to the original paper particulate filter. It is dimensionally identical, but about twice as heavy as the stocker.

That's not too bad, that works out to $0.10 more than I pay to buy filters from the dealer 5 minutes from me. Might be something to consider for when I don't feel like leaving the house, that is a cheap enough "lazy tax."
