P0299 AFTER Cleaning and Oiling K&N Filter

Hey all,

Another day another check engine code.

Scanned a P0299 turbo pressure low... a few days after “doing the right thing” and cleaning and oiling my K&N filter. Performance felt a little doggy a few hours leading up to the code, and I’ve been reading around on here about it and some kind of link with heavy oil and causing problems. Long story short I’m going to get a factory paper filter today, but do you think this can clear itself up, or have I damaged the turbo somehow?

Any advice appreciated. Thinking of ways to remedy this.

The issue with oiled air filters is when you add too much oil. The extra will come off, and foul the mass air flow sensor. There is a special cleaner available for the sensor from auto parts stores.

Not exactly sure how the P0299 is related to this, as that's usually from a weak wastegate actuator, part of the exhaust side of the system.

Start with the sensor cleaning, and look into the BNR wastegate actuator upgrade.
