Hey any updates, Lorax? How is the Parrot radio working out?
I have mixed feelings about the Parrot. If you are a nerd and like to tinker you will probably like it. It's weak points are the radio tuner and the occasional freeze. It's a real PITA to have to do a hard reboot while you are driving if it freezes. It doesn't happen often but I've had it happen a few times. One of which I was using waze on it in downtown Baltimore to get somewhere. Not the best time for it to decide it's going to freeze.
The good.... it's awesome. Load basically any app you want on it. You can put all your music on large flash drive connected to a cable that I leave in my glove box (I routed it there during install) and if I want to change something on the flash drive I simply take it inside and then bring it back the next time I drive.
Voice recognition is awesome it will search your phone contacts via bluetooth and call anyone you want in your contact list via voice command once you hit the voice command button.
It also works for searching through your flash drive and will even search spotify for items that aren't downloaded if you use spotify.
The WiFi issue I mentioned earlier I have now discovered was my phone and not the Parrot. I deleted the app I was using for it and installed a different one and it works like a charm now. No USB tethering required. I simply tap one icon on my phone when I get to my car for the wifi hotspot to be turned on and I'm connected.
So in closing, yes it's an amazing unit, yes it has it's problems. I don't know of anyone that has any plans to create anything similar in the near future.
Knowing what I know now I think I would still buy it again. Yes it could be better but it is still the best thing on the market IMO.
