Possible to freeze the mileage odometer?

I don't know if it can be done. There are quite a few speed sensors (one on each wheel, one for trans input, one for trans output). I don't know that unplugging any one would disable the odometer. And anything that kills the odometer would likely render the speedo inop as well.

Get a second set of wheels and tires that have a much larger diameter. Lord knows the stock suspension has room. When off the clock, use the larger wheels. You'll be clocking less miles than you are actually traveling.

You could actually do the reverse for working miles...and get a bit smaller diameter for when you're working...it will appear you've driven more than you really have...

But the big question is do you really want to bother swapping wheels back and forth?

I would say deal with it or get a 2nd vehicle for personal use.

Years ago i wanted to try this on my 02 Cavalier Z24. I unplugged the speed sensor which disabled the speedo and odometer. I then installed a separate digital 2 5/8 speedo in a pillar gauge pod so i still knew how fast i was going! Best part besides no mileage racking up was the computer didnt actually know how fast i was going so there was no top speed shutoff. That modified 2.4L with a 50 shot of NOS could pull 130+ in 5th gear...lol. But for the record i condone this type of behavior and dont recommend it

I highly doubt that would work on a newer car. A 2002 Z24 is quite basic when it comes to computer control.

It would still be odometer tampering and a violation of at least state laws. Unless the rest of the car is set up to handle the higher speeds it is never a good idea to override the speed limiter. I dont know of anywhere in the US that you can legally hit the factory speed limiter on a public road. Even on a track I dont see the vast majority of us needing to raise or remove the limiter.

depends on the track … the back stretch at Road Atlanta and the long straights at VIR both give you a chance to reach speed limiter

This is against federal law... But u know u could swap the ecu or console for a newer wrecked one... I believe one of those 2 holds the mileage but I can't remember which one or if it's both.

I know on the cruze and camaro its held in the bcm and cluster. I haven't had the chance to mess around with it yet so can't say for sure. Just make sure you replace it with a cluster that's thd same year and trim.

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's held in both places and if I remember correctly the mileage has to match or you will have issues. I remember having to special order clusters with the mileage pre programmed from gm when working at the dealer if your cluster went bad.

Keep in mind that altering the mileage is also fraud. Depending on who you talk, to the forum could be held liable if this is done and the guy is caught. Most forums I have been on will not even allow this topic to be discussed, among other topics. I would suggest that if you want to help this guy commit a violation, take to PM or email and not an open forum.
