Problems with unintended acceleration and buffeting

wow this was an intresting read to catchup on.
Had an intresting electrical gremlin the other day. Was the hottest day yet since I've been down here. The radio and guages werent actually "activiated". Radio was dark as if key was out and mileage displayed as it does when you first open the door, nothing else. However the vehicle drove normal, I however have a manual transmission so that wasnt effected.
Like any product shifting production, we'll see these become more and more domestic as more and more production occurs in orion.

Oh, I think there might be a little joshing going on, but maybe not by the (perhaps artfully imagined) neo swamp body shop guy...........half a dozen 5 gallon bottles??? that's about 53 lbs..........

Not really!! A half dozen 5 gallon bottles of water would weigh about 240 pounds not counting the weight of the bottles.
That's scary, and I believe at least one other person here had that issue. I have a manual too so that might be a slight advantage in that situation, but I hope I never run into that. Was that when you turned it on or did that happen while already driving? Did it start working again after a restart?

was after starting, kinda like the electronics never woke up after the starter did its thing.
Cycling the ignition and/or turning the radio on got the electrical alive. Has been good to go since.
edit: thinking back it happened just as i was starting out and almost stalled it, i think my quick drop of the clutch and gas on might have bump restarted it possibly?

This has happened to me a few times...
Only occurs when car is cold and has just been started.

It's happened several times since, only when it's running at high idle.

I'll be happy when this thread needs to not be the top thread ever single visit.
That being said, I have noticed my Sonic seems to resist when I try to get it whoa'd down for a stop light.
I just assumed it to be characteristic of the additional torque a undersquare motor makes at low rpms.

auto or manual? if you remain in to high of gear on the way to the stop light it'll feel kinda like cruise control as the cars momentum kinda forces the motor along and the computer fights for idle/keep from stalling

Auto. I can't tell what gear it's in when I slow down. It just says D.
I'm thinking/wondering if I need to read about the brake recall.

The sonic actually does pretty good with weight in it. i had all of my belongings 3 seabags and a full trunk and the suspension still had travel. Its a pretty beefy setup for a small car.

The other "feature" you might feel is when you press the brakes it may stop the "fuel cut" or transmission brake effect that helps improve in town economy. This will give you that feeling of the vehicle coasting for a moment when you "tap" the brakes.
If you braking is really suffering, have the brakes looked at could be air in the lines too, but if you didnt have pads you would hear and feel some preety nasty stuff coming from the front end.
Another thing to try, make sure you rear drums are doing their job. While in reverse in a safe location, do a few hard fast stops to make sure they self adjust. Stoping in reverse will ensure they loaded up as the primary stopping force and will set them unless something is out of whack.

Cyric I have a genuine feeling that this is not of your doing. I have read your posts and would agree with the fact of a drive by wire issue. At the end of the day its electronics. My friends trailblazer did basically the same thing. Luckily it was in park at the time. It was hitting the rev limiter in park without him touching the gas. He is a large fella. They regarded it as him being to big. Its BS I was right there. So he got rid of the truck.

OP, it definitely sounds like you're running into an electrical problem.
Whether it's simply drive-by-wire, an electrical short, a charge system problem, or a complex failure involving the ECM I couldn't tell you.
The in-car cam is going to be the only thing that will help both you and GM.
The community desperately needs your problem solved.
No matter what the cause turns out to be it can help everyone ensure it doesn't happen to them whether it's recall-able, or simply something that will help us troubleshoot things later.
